Bit of both I would say along with devs 100% relying on upscaling and now frame gen as their optimisation methods.... obviously a 4090 should be doing way better but sadly it is a trend now with UE 5, the grunt just isn't there unless devs start to optimise but I can't see that changing, of course there will be a few titles here and there which will no doubt run great but safe to say, most of the time, it will be what we have seen so far :o

Considering Unreal still doesn't properly use multi core CPU's is a big red flag that Epic simply don't give a damn, This has been a problem since UE3 and with more and more games using UE the PC performance landscape is going to get very ugly IMO.

CPU optimisation? That's what frame gen is for! :D

You playing on the 3080 or the networked 4080 m8? Those FPS numbers aren't bad for UW!

edit - Found a vid with an XTX playing it, doesn't seem bad

Just local pc/3080, not renewed my sub to ultimate and doubt I will since the base fps is poor so frame gen latency will be noticeable especially over streaming, that and may do some PVP so latency will be very important. Games like this generally love the 3d cache so I imagine my 5800x3d will help more with perf than the 5900x. But yeah once you turn off volumetric clouds and volumetric fog, fps is ok, playable anyway, big variance though depending on where you are e.g. on beach, fps is around 40-55, go into the jungle/forest and fps can gp up to 80.

I've dropped settings a bit since this video and this is on the first version of the game so don't have the performance improvements:

Will record and upload new video.

Played AW2 it till 4am last night, loving it, can see why people say it's like Resi a bit more now, I get it inventory etc, but I still stand by my point that it's more it's own thing or at a push a bit more Silent Hill'ish. Love it though.
If they remade AW1 this way, that'd be awesome.

Yea one guy even gave it a bad review as he feels they copied a lot from Resident Evil remakes.

“They’ve more or less completely copied across interface from the recent Resident Evil games, even down to the health bar and the way you can equip items and weapons into quick slots. If you’re ever grabbed by an enemy, you can use a flare to break their hold. Which is almost identical to the way sub-weapons worked in the recent RE games.” Gman claimed as he showed side-by-side comparisons of the games.

Personally i think it's a plus if other developers learn what works in a game and do something similar. I loved both Silent Hill and Resident Evil back in the day, they had a lot of similarities while being very different at the same time. As long as the Story is not a copy and the worlds are a completely different setting it would never bother me. If controls are similar i find it a plus as i am already to get in there.

Agreed. More Resident Evil like the better. Still won't buy it until it is on steam and until I have a 5070 or something. No rush, nothing about it screams must play to me.

I feel the same atm but it is one in the bank. I like to keep a few bankers when i have no must play games. Sometimes the bankers turn out to be better than my must plays which is always a nice surprise.

Yeah I get that, normally something like that would annoy me, I'm surprised it doesn't, but I think now there's so many silly control schemes/ott inventory management etc, it'd be nice just to have everything the same for once, just like button layouts etc, whenever possible I'll always setup a controller for example to have the same buttons as another game of that genre or those inputs in general, so it's all muscle memory and you get properly immersed. It annoys me in TLOU that I have to hold L1 to run vs just click in L3... Like EVERY GAME EVER?

The funny thing is no-one's mentioned they flat out stole TLOU's font and way it's used in chapters etc as well, that did annoy me. I'm sure it's not a font NaughtyDog created, but it's that iconic, it's become part of the lore IMHO.

I reckon AW himself looks like Jared Leto cosplaying John Wick

See I thought this but was committed after forcing myself to do AW1+DLC's so I could do the last Control DLC which AW is in...
I thought screw it, it looks pretty it'll probs be worth it for a bit to have a go, turns out it's decent and surprisingly immersive after last night's session. SO FAR.

But yeah Resi is the GOAT, they cannot go wrong currently with their RE engine and how good 7+8 were along with the remakes!
We just need Code Veronica X and I'll be a very happy boy! None of This Gears Of War Resi 5/6 crap though - just pretend they never happened. AWFUL games!

100% this!

We want Code Veronica! If they must they can do RE5 after and hopefully make it much better than it was.

RE6 on the otherhand is a complete lost cause and as you say it is best we pretend it never happened.

I would actually like them to remake RE3 again and do it properly

Resident Evil 0 was pretty good as well but did love Code Veronika on the Dreamcast. I started losing interest in RE games when 5 came out. They were to much action based and lost the Survival Horror feel.

Yeah it's SO good, the real Resi3! If you know you know... Also check out Resi 1.5 on YT/emulation there's an awesome fan made project about what could have been with that, again if you know you know, if not that'll blow your mind what RE2 would have originally been.
Ref RE3Remake, I liked it, missed a few areas and bits sure, but was solid IMHO, I'd like another remake of 1, it was VERY good at the time on both CUBE and remaster, but imagine how good it could be now!
5 Had the potential sure, but from the get go when it just becomes GEARS as with 6, it was such a WASTE of what could have been a good plot and just turns into a cartoon.

I really loved 7, SO good when that came out and damnnnn did it look good, played it for the first time on pc, using the current rig, looks pretty good, IIRC as with the other Resi' you can render twice the resolution of your native, so 4k native textures on a 1440p screen look amazing, and the 4070 will happily do it, as with RE2/3 doing the same thing and 8, loved 8... I tried to play it a 2nd time in the new 3rd person option and IDK I just think I like 7+8 how they were, I was never against it, as i'd played Silent Hill The Room which is FPS as was P.T. (if you ever got a chance to play that, the secret Silent Hill, before Konami scumbagged Hideo!)

Yeah that's the only one I need to go back and finish. Enjoyed what I played though!
I played P.T. got me really excited for Silent Hills and then the rest is history.
Yeah I still have it playable on my jailbroken ps4 ;)
There's also various projects if you look hard enough for the fan made PC port.

Did you actually finish it yeah? It's a good 25-45mins if you manage to finish it and get the real ending vs getting 'scared' in the game and screwing yourself, as she's always behind you as you probably know and in various other places.

Yea i finished it and got the teaser. Will have a look but i remember it being very well done and had a good atmosphere.

Just installed and all seems legit. Loaded it up and seems good. I can't play it the now but ready for me later.
Did you use the link and scroll down to the comments for the Gdrive link yeah?

Just tested it myself, it legit is a rip of the real game, madness, I dl'ed this and the PTunity version, although that is a nice replica, the one I linked is legit the real deal. It claims at the beginning it doesn't work with controllers, but I use DS4Windows and I tried my luck and works out the box!
Still terrifying and looks insane. Just a shame can't adjust the graphics anymore but it clearly was running at native res for me.
Enjoy!

There was an awesome fan made inspired sequel called Allison Road, that got taken down. Shame as that looked awesome too!

The fact this and P.T. were on PS4 in what 2014 and look better than a lot of games today, says a lot. I mean I'll say this again, 1080p original PS4... Ridiculous achievement!
