First movie sure. 2nd one bore me. Me and my brothers went to watch it at the cinema. We was looking at each other like wtf is this...

Not what we expected at all.

Overall I liked Avatar 2 but I wasn't keen on the water setting.

What's dirtiest is that it defaults to using FSR

Edit*
There's no frame gen! Let's see what the fps is with the Unobtanium GFX preset.

Sadly you have to use FSR2 otherwise AMD's frame gen won't work and there are a ton of artefacting issues with AMD's frame gen.

I'm hoping Massive implement DLSS3 but it's an AMD sponsored game so I'm expecting AMD to nudge Massive and say "We draw the line at DLSS2, DLSS3 will make us look even worse".

I wonder if it is selling well. The thread on this forum seems almost dead and just came out.

Alright so I will post a proper initial reviews in the game's thread but first impressions are that up close, textures in indoors areas do not stand up to scrutiny, they are low res low poly, and only get blurry if you zoom in /if/ depth of field is on lol.

I am using the Unobtanium GFX preset

Outdoors in the forest it looks really good. With FSR3 Frame Gen enabled I can pull 100fps fairly easily using Quality mode. Ultra Quality is using the native render res (3440x1440 for me). I don't like frame gen in this though, there is obvious frame time stuttering when panning the camera left and right, and it is visually less-smooth at 100fps using FSR3 frame gen than DLSS Quality at 60fps which has a completely flat frametime graph line on RTSS. I wonder what DLSS3 injected into the game via a mod will do, it would be hilarious to get better results than FSR3 (usually the case anyway in other games though).

Using DLSS Quality results in 55-65fps out in the forest, and up to around 80fps indoors. There is no Reflex or RAW mouse input option but I don't think it's needed as mouse camera latency/response seems really good, even at the lower fps in Unobtanium settings. I dropped the mouse sensitivity to 95 for the 3 mouse values and that's good for me on a 1000dpi/1000Hz mouse.

Setting the preset to Ultra results in over 100fps out in the forest with DLSS Quality. Visually there's not that much different between Unobtanium and Ultra. See for yourself:

Looks to be slightly more distant texture and shadow detail in unobtanium but that's about it.

Yeah only just, keep in mind the clouds ettc moving above affect the lighting too so a distant cloud can dim out textures in the scene far away between screenshots too.

One thing I really like, and am glad they added this sort of detail as it reminds me of The Last of Us on the PS3 (heh), raindrops dribble down and off your weapons:

I will give either of you a fiver to borrow your Ubisoft account for a month or so after you complete it.

It subsidises the cost of the game for you and Ubisoft don't get my money! Win win!

I am due a clean install of windows soon anyway. So it will all work out.

Think about it ;):p:cry:

Tighter than a ducks arse :p

"zOMG but itz free and works on every gpu!!!!"

:p

You can try these mrk which may or may not fix/improve the issue according to some, it did jack **** for me though:

- use borderelss fullscreen mode
- set fps cap to what you are achieving i.e. so 100 and vsync on in game

Sadly it will never fix the screen tearing/stuttering around the UI areas, which unfortunately takes up a fair chunk of your screen even if the box area of it is invisible.

As said further back, DLSS balanced and no FG > fsr quality and FG. It is simply a better experience visually and for smoothness. Higher FPS is pointless if you have micro stuttering. I tried FSR (upscaling again) and it's still just not a patch on dlss, definetly best case scenario so far but when you notice the fizzling and broken UI elements etc. it is just immersion breaking.

Obviously waiting for Nvidia to bring free frame generation to Ampere.

He has a better chance of Jensen dressed in an RTX Nvidia green mankini with sparkles on his giggle berries, Giving him a private lap dance while singing "My milkshake brings all the GPU's to the yard" than frame gen coming to Ampere.

I'm just playing it on a mix of Unobtanium and Ultra now as my personal optimised for quality and fps :p 100fps+ in most places dipping to 80+ using DLSS Quality. That will do!

Edit*
Your move, AMD Frame Genners

Guessing them adjustments didn't make FSR 3 a better experience for you either then? :D Don't forget, it's free though!

I do hope amd can get fsr 3 working much better though, as proven now, frame gen when done well is a huge improvement (as long as getting 50-60 fps as your base), it is a shame that the only gpus that can really enjoy a good experience with frame gen tech is "still" ada based gpus, maybe some day the rest of us pc gamers with older/weaker/other branded gpus will get to bask in the glory of a true frame gen experience but that day has not yet come!

I think at this stage it's very clear that software frame gen will never be able to match or beat hardware methods like DLSS 3.

Intel will be watching closely as like with XeSS, they'll probably implement a hybrid one that extends into hardware for Arc whilst providing a limited but decent solution for all GPUs.

On a dGPU costing nearly £2000. You shouldn't need FG in the first place, especially if the title isn't using heavy RT.

Maybe games devs need "AI" to optimise their games better!

In Ultra it's 100fps+ all the time without FG so there is that and in Unobtainium I'll give ty Devs a pass as they stated this present is for future GPUs so because of that nobody can skate it really.

Anyways I've found my ideal settings which is just above Ultra with a few in the Unobtainium area so that's all good.
