The Ryzen 5 3600 Discussion Thread

Is there any way to stop that? I've tried bios settings and Windows/ryzen power settings but it always down clocks.
Disable C states in bios maybe? But why do that? Your power usage from the wall will go up due to needing more volts when pc is idle. I actually really like that my cores go to sleep, it is a power saving feature and helps the cpu work less and also last longer :)

I know it's not a bad thing, just wanted the option to test with some benchmarking.

Intrestingly enabling a bios setting global c states also Down volts the fixed vcore, shows it fluctuating in ryzen master but hwinfo just shows a fixed setting.

My understanding is the correct value is in Ryzen Master.

I have not touched anything in my bios apart from putting memory to xmp. Will play about with bios at a later date once we get a few more new bios updates. AGESA v4 coming out soon, will be interesting to see what that brings.

I have a 3600 coming tomorrow paired with a Gigabyte B450 AUROS Pro and 16GB of 3200 Corsair LPX.

Can anyone foresee any issues?

I didn’t realise about the BIOS issues until just now, the Gigabyte website does say that the board is “ready for Ryzen 3000 series” - I take that to mean it’ll be preloaded with a supported BIOS for this CPU?

Not had an AMD CPU since the FX8320 so looking forward to seeing the increase.

There are certain models correctly ready such as the MAX Tomahawk (max meaning updated). You could get lucky if the board is a freshly shipped one from the factory, but I made the oversight and had to send mine back to get flashed as earlier iterations didnt have modern enough BIOS to recognise the new chips.

If your lucky you either have a) someone that can lend you a cpu to update BIOS or b) have one of older/cheaper versions and swap in/out.

Had an FX8320 too so was a decent leap to go from.

there website might say that and im sure the later manufatored b450 motherbaords will have the enw bios but not saying the retailer you buy from will have the latest stock and its allways better to ask the reatailer to check for you.
I thought it was possible to update the BIOS with no CPU on some boards?

some do yes but the vast majority doesnt spuort it though whilst its beccoming more popular on x570 board the b450 also got popular but x470/x370 only a couple suported it

Ah that's where this may fall down then - ordered an x570 also just before the cut-off so will send the B450 back.

i went for a X570 myself. I got mine on launch day though but I got it for another reason as well was bios updates. Now I know that most motherboards now have the latest bios the abba version (I believe asrock haven’t put across all mobo yet) but X570 get the bios first it’s the main aim for companies to support the latest first. U see on these forums and others a lot saying there older mobo don’t have x bios yet and still waiting etc.

I know it’s not allways needed but going for latest motherboard chipset is allways beneficial :)

I have a MSI b450 gaming pro carbon, Ryzen 3600 and Corsair 16gb 3200 RAM coming shortly.

to go with my 2070 super ive purchased.

This will be my first AMD build, is there anything major I should be aware of with BIOS settings etc like getting my RAM to run at full speed?.

it is coming pre flashed so ready for Ryzen 3. So I don’t need to worry about this.
Thanks

No not really, just be sure you know how to install a CPU with actual pins under it because the last thing you want is bent pins, the memory uses XMP profiles just like Intel.

If you run into problems ask about that, there is nothing special or different to running an AMD system :)

Great thank you, I’ll be sure to take a little more care with the CPU :)

hopefully going to notice a nice boost coming from a i7 3770 and DDR3 RAM.

Update the bios to the abba version so it boosts correctly
