**The Secret World**

Can anyone let me know if the game handles any better now? When I played the beta it felt like my character was permanently underwater or something.

Right sorry guys being speaking to the guys running the Immortals cabal and they feel that they will not renew their subs, so its really not worth joining as when the main few quit the cabal will struggle.

Can you change the facial features of a character once you have started one?

Not at the moment however a later update (touted for August) will be opening Okhams Razor in London and somewhere in New Youk where you can essentially remap your face. Not sure yet if it will include body alteration.

We've already announced our plans for expanding and improving character customisation: The Modern Prometheus and Ockham's Razor are opening in New York and London respectively in August, Execution later this year in Seoul. Pangaea in London will receive new stock, and we will add more accessories and clothing as rewards for both achievements and missions

The Secret World

I have just grabbed this game, downloaded it, setup ran fine. Running the launcher and it says it's patching, but nothing is actually happening, my net usage is not changing at all...

Ideas guys?

You'd be better off having a look at the official forums, they may be updating today.

Yep...

Server Update - July 24th, 2012
The servers will come down for update 1.0.3 on July 24th at 09:00 GMT / 5am EDT / 2am PDT (check this link to see when this is in your timezone). The downtime is scheduled to last 3 hours.

To be fair it's been the first time we've not been able to update. Normally it would let you patch up.

Got this today, looks really good, and the classless system has perked my interest.

Anyway, any tips and what nor for a new guy?

Pick a weapon you like the sound of, assault rifles is very fotm, mainly for the range advantage in pvp, and self healing in pve. Have a look at the effects that weapon causes eg afflicted, hindered etc, then look for other effects that trigger off that effect. I'm using a pistols/swords build at the moment, built around penetration. Mainly because I'm a pervert ;)

The easy way is to open the skill window, on the very left side there'll be tab called Decks - click this, and have a look at the pre-made decks for your faction. These aren't very optimsed, but are a good starting point. Likewise on the right of the skill wheel, there's a tab for search - you can search by afflicted for example and see all skills related to that effect.

You get 1 AP every 40k xp, and 1 SP every 120k xp. SP are for putting points into your weapons to avoid glancing hits, weaponskill effectively, and SP's are also for putting points into your talismans, so you can wear higher level ones. Try and keep your two main weapons and tali's vaguely level.
The xp requirement never changes, it's always those fixed values. As you move through areas quest rewards get progressively higher, but so do the costs of higher end skills so it keeps it fairly fluid. It's a good system.

Oh, and 2 weapons is a good point too. The idea being that you build resources with 1 skill, then have 2 different weapon's consumers (or finishers) to fire off in succession, since the builder will build for both. Ideally to start have 1 builder, 1 consumer for each weapon, and at least 1 aoe for group mobs - this all depends on the weapons you use of course.

Regarding skills. You get 7 slots for active skills, which only work when you have that particular skills weapon equiped. Passive skills on the other hand work regardless of weapon, so it's worth using the search function to find other skills in other weapon sets that would benefit your own.

Aaaaand, that'll do for now before I get carried away :)

Sounds slightly complex. That is how I like it! EVE is VERY complex, Starwars Galaxies was the ONLY other MMO to really grab me, the classless system made me think of this.

Who cares if it's nothing like it, I'm gonna play it anyway, only cost me £25.99 so not a big loss.

The mix'n match weapon system is excellent. I've gone from elemental/blade to assault rifle/elemental to assault rifle/blade to pistol/assault rifle.

It takes a while for the complexity to kick in, but it's a tinkerers dream once it does. The nice thing is that there's no respec required, you can load up a previous spec at any time.

Sounds even better!!

Hehe, once you get the synergies working it's great. Add to this the best voice acting from any genre game I've ever played, and some of the most interesting & surreal quests and I'm loving it. And I usually hate pve ;)

One other thing to note is that anyone can group with anyone else, regardless of server or faction. Guilds have to be the same faction, but can be cross server. And PvP is your server only. Oh, and nicknames are unique accross all servers, so it's now an utter swine to pick a new name :(

Random things that may help: The only clothes shop is currently in London. Clothes dont have any stats, you have talismans for that, so you can wear whatever you want.
There's also a taco seller in London - these speed up your out of combat health regen when eaten, but arent needed. Oh and for comedy value, disassemble a taco & see what you get ;)
When you go into the training room and get to pick a weapon, do so, leave, then go back in and grab the other one you want to use. Free base level weapon. And while you're there, have a close look at the elementalist weapon, a close look. Little touches like this really do it for me.
Money's pretty worthless, it's only for repairs, new clothes and buying speed upgrades. There's a mobility trainer near your faction headquarters, the first sprint speed upgrade is 100k and absolutely worth getting asap.

London in the game always gives me the impression of being underdeveloped - the whole of Darkside with all its little shops and market, the pets vs monsters arena that doesn't do anything. It's like they had a load of ideas that they didn't have time to implement. Hopefully they'll get around to it sometime.
