The Show Off Your Tattoo Thread

Sword Art Online, it's a 25 part series about MMOs... It's my favorite I've ever watched, loved every second of it.

Next session is a 7 hour one and will get that colored and finished :)

Believe I've heard of this before. Cool!
I'm booked in on the 13th to finish mine, then I need to plan my next two! :D

Logo from the Witcher (game - wolf), my bro and I both getting the same one on chest, and also getting a custom phoenix on either back or side.

Very nice mate, love that logo from the Witcher. Also like the idea about the custom phoenix with your brother.

Been eyeing up this thread for a while & would like to make a contribution, but I'm in need of a little guidance (as I havn't settled on one yet or know much about it to be honest other than what I've read online).

I know the style & I've done a few drawings - but the rough idea is as below what I'm after.

Is this kind of thing something anyone could do, or will I have to goto a place which is experienced with the style - I'm pretty picky about the quality of the work done (as I've been panting myself for ages - I'm more after a piece of artwork than a normal tat)

For the style, I want black/shading & dark red - no other colours.

With such a piece like that I'd only get it from an artist with a proven record and also with a few personal recommendations from friends. For a full sleeve I wouldn't want to take a risk of getting a bad artist.

Exactly what I was thinking, but sadly either my friends have no tattoos or the ones they have are crap & I'd avoid who did them like the plague :P.

Anybody know of a good one local to Hampshire or even London area from personal experience?.

You could check out things like the store's/artists' facebook pages or galleries look for tattoos they might already done in the same style.

The best artists in the UK for traditional Japanese are the following;

Horikitsune (Alex Reinke)
Stewart Robson
Ian Flower

This isn't just about the quality of the work but also the thorough knowledge of the history and meaning of the style. Alex Reinke in particular apprenticed under Horiyoshi III making he part of one of the most prestigious tattooing lineages there is.

edit: I can personally vouch for Stewart being excellant although the tattoo I have from him isn't a Japanese piece.

Cheers for the info, I've fired off a few emails & will be making a few calls to the ones suggested.

It's something I've wanted to do, but simple lack of trust of the artists has put me off! (backseat artists are the worst!)

The guy that does mine is very good, he is based in Egham.

It depends where in Hampshire you are and how far you are willing to travel.

I have a full traditional sleeve and in the process of getting my other arm done, the artwork is excellent, both are done by the same guy, who currently works out of Good Times Tattoos in Shoreditch, they do a huge amount of Japanese style stuff, very popular and well known, every artist there is amazing. Obviously sleeves take a long time, traditional ones in particular, so that is something to bare in mind with travelling, as the shading etc takes time to build up so it is solid with no misses etc.

I will take some photos of my arms and post them up later!

my full sleeve which was my xmas gift to myself :p

its mainly day of the dead and sugar skulls and some cloud style shading, the cards have my birthday on and the pocket watch has my time of birth
