*** The SKY F1 2012 Coverage Thread ***

Natalie Pinkham was pitlane reporter for R5L for the last couple of years and worked with David Croft and Ant Davidson there too.

Ah right, Thought she was fresh from else where in sky (new to sky and never listened to R5L)

She does a decent job with the drivers, It's mainly the other one I can't get away with.

Cheers for setting me right. :)

What I used to hate about the BBC and ITV coverage was the 'cooking with an F1 driver' type stuff. So far sky have been much more focused on the actual sport.

This is precisely what I like about the BBC coverage. Sometimes things like this are continuously professional, but I after a few lines about how their practice/qually/race was like what else do I really care about?

The BBCs china pre-race build up was Jake & Lewis at the MTC driving RC cars about.
Fun, entertaining and nice to see the other side of the drivers.

A while back was Jake and Button chatting casually over a game of pool, entertaining and informative.

From what you say Sky seems... boring!

I sat down and watched the BBC from 7am to 11am on Sunday, didn't get up, swap channels or do anything else in that time. It *has* to be entertaining to sit down for that long!

BBC is a bit more 'mates chatting in the pub'. Much less formal but professional with it.
Sky is a little bit wooden but to be fair they've only had 3 races so far and hopefully they'll gel a bit more by the end of the season.

Also DC, EJ and Jake work very well as a trio as they have a relaxed chatty style. In comparison Brundle is a little awkward in front of the camera (odd considering his grid walk is very good), Lazenby doesn't sound very convincing, Hill was just dull but Herbert was much better and actually had a better rapport with Brundle and made him work better for this race I thought.

Skys great if your a stats whore, not much life in stats though. :p
Its really frustrating, the BBC did such a great job and then just tossed it out with the trash.
In fairness, at least Sky are doing something with there investment and seem to want to make a good show, ITV should be shot for there paltry attempt!

And when looking at total viewing figures you have to look at it as a potential of total audience. Even when using the largest possible Sky figure (10m) they are on par with BBC figures from last year.

Are you in marketing or something as a profession - ONLY a marketing person would come up with that codswallop lol

"potential" is complete balony - its those that actually watch the program that counts

edit - hmm thanks for the tip about Go, always thought it was a free add on for those who subscribed (as from your comment, it sounds like its over priced for my needs then unfortunately but I will look into it anyway)......Ive had a look, but to me the Go page implies it has to be part of a current subscription (which as far as I know are all based around boxes/dishes), will look in further detail though when I have more time

Anyone else think Simon Lazenby is a little odd? Fair enough he is still settling in but he is far from composed. He ofter blurts out a question and then blatantly doesn't listen to the answer whilst his eyes are rolling around looking all over the shop....

Although he did make me lol on Sunday whilst he was talking to Ross Braun and Nortbert Hauf after the win. Jean Todt arrived, kissed Ross Braun and then left, Lazenby pretty much laughed at Todt and said 'and off he goes on his own merry little way', causing raised eyebrows from all the others :p

Monthly ticket prices are on this page although you may need to click 'Show monthly ticket options' on the right hand side. Cheapest price that includes F1 is £35 per month but theres no contract and no notice to cancel. you can do it the day before your payment is due and it'll cancel immediately. you can use up to two devices as well.

You do realise again that a sky customer could buy the F1 pack without owning a tv and sky box right? Seems you just want to nitpick at Arknor again and are ignoring the issue....

I would like to see the full F1 stuff available on demand and anytime, would you not?

We'll never get that either.

Hi Mattey,

We have received feedback and unfortunately F1™ will not be shown on Anytime+.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Thanks,

Anne

ouchhhhhh that is STIFF for a mobile platform

Even if Im lucky thats £10+ a race.... just not worth it

They havent missed a trick but as per usual they price themselves out (or even WAY out)

I appreciate the info though - thank you

edit - I have to admit I miss Martin Brundle - I just really like his style of presentation / commentary (really not sure about the new BBC guy along side DC, for some reason he just doesnt sound right to me)

Well clearly Sky is for you then :p

Out of interest, what did Sky do instead of that that was better :S
the drivers from the top and mid field teams all go karting with sky each week, massa is top of the sky championship standings after 3 rounds , its a pitty you dont have a sky subscription theres been some great action so far

Since around the middle of 2010 I have mostly watched F1 coverage from MB's grid walk through to after the press conference. Some of the BBC 'fluff' started to annoy me, as did EJ, so I just started watching the race itself and got my F1 news from elsewhere (mostly from here :p).

Same here. I used to turn in from the beginning even back in the ITV days, but now I just watch from 30 mins before, for the grid walk.

because i am usually working during the races i usually record the show and skip through the intro unless there is something that looks interesting, think this weekend is probably first weekend i can watch the race live! So far managed to avoid the results for the whole day at work though...i am sure my luck will run out soon though ;)

Sounds like Sky have listened to us as Georgie Thompson will be presenting from London for this race. Either that or she didn't fancy the trip to Bahrain. Hmmm. Wonder which.
