The Sony A73/A7R3/A7S3/A9 Thread

If anyone’s interested in what the Smallrig cage looks like with the Peak Design Capture V3 clip added to it:

It’s not as horrendous as I expected it to be. Still, will need to decide whether I keep both or send one of them back.

Anyone know how good the sigma 70-200 cannon is with the adaptor on a a7r3?

My technically inempt father in law is switching to sony and doesn't want to buy the sony 70-200.

Cheers

I have not used that particular lens but tried my lovely Sigma 150-600C on my A7Riii using the MC-11 adapter. Between 150-400mm the AF was reasonable, not anywhere as good as it had been natively on my Canon 1DX, but useable. Between 400mm and 600mm it was a crock of poo, just not useable for the purpose such a lens intended.
I returned the adapter to Jessops and with tears in my eyes sold the 150-600.
I suppose my thoughts would be for him to try it out and maybe simply do what I did in the end, give up and return the adapter and bite the bullet and buy the Sony 70-200 which by all accounts is a cracker. I bought the 100-400.

I’ve been told the 150-600 works fine with the updated mc-11 firmware? I was going to get one this week to complete my set up as I can’t justify a 100-400

I haven’t heard that but it would be brilliant if it worked, let us know your results if you go ahead.

Ok,

Shame stores don't have a couple of adaptors running so you can check them out

Must be just an issue with the A7r then as it worked flawlessly with my A7iii. I even bought the canon adaptor and canon version of the sigma 150-600. Although it was the sport version of the lens so that may make a difference?

Well happy with battery life. I have 7 batteries for the A7Rii and they last around 200 shots each. First battery in the A7Riii and I got 820 shots :)

I've asked 2 people using the A7Riii and they both said the C version is spot on with the latest firmware. I'll keep my eyes peeled for one and try it out. My local store had one in and said I could try it, turned out to be Nikon :(

What are the main benefits of choosing the A7R3 over the A73?

Sensor res, evf res, rear screen res, higher quality video, hi res pixel shift colour improving thingy. That’s it I think.

In other areas it lags behind. Eg dispute having a larger buffer, with the sensor size being bigger it fills up quicker than the a7iii. Of course you can lower the res on the R.

Does the ISO difference matter?

I see A7Riii having a 32000 ISO and the A7iii having a 208000 (expanded) ISO?

Where is currently the best price for the A7Riii?

Cheers :)

You can google or use a price search machine for the best price, surely? Also watch the many youtube vids comparing the A7III vs A7rIII?
