Tesla insurance will come, still work in progress for the US and I suspect at least 9 to 12 months plus for Europe and UK. If they get the FSD computer running as musk hopes though it could further reduce minor accidents and so help reduce premiums. Still I'll be impressed when it can smart Sumon out if a tight guarage or car park consistently. Blue SR+ due first week sept for me. Insurance I'm still watching the Facebook group and will get quotes soon. Late 30s and 12y NCB it should be at the lower end I'm hoping.

Same as you - 43 this year, NCB of 10 years plus - shouldn't be much more than my golf gti I hope
It's no brainer to me too.
I'm thinking of doing a contract purchase but a 3 year lease.
I can reclaim half of the vat on rentals, reclaim vat on tyres and repairs , 0% BIK
Really is a no brainer.
About double the Golf GTI it replaces and a bit more than double the Lexus RX400h we have as well, which is not a great surprise as it’s significantly more valuable and quicker!
damn! thought it might be high but didn't think it would be double something like a GTI.
I wonder if the insurance companies will start trying to add premiums for people charging in their own garages, risk of batteries exploding etc etc. nowt would surprise me.

A lot of insurers (or more accurately, their underwriters) are not quoting right now, so I suspect that in 3-6 months time the cost will come down - but we will see! LV for example will insure you today but when their underwriter comes back to them they might ask you for more money

If Tesla offer insurance its highly likely to just be a manufacturer deal, so basically still one of the normal insurance cos operating in the background with some reduced premiums off the back of more business.
Becoming an insurance underwriter (which is what really matters) requires quite a lot of regulations and virtually unlimited funds in order to be able to satisfy liquidity and potential losses calculations.
Tesla could make the insurance look better by in effect subsidising the premium the insurer actually charges.
Maybe they would setup a self insurance type arrangement with ultimate recourse to some one like Lloyds of London. This would give them more flexibility in regards T&Cs, but limit their capital requirements and risk to an acceptable one. (Many companies act in similar ways to this, self insuring upto a certain level of loss, but with a higher level insurance as a backstop. think of it like having a £1M excess on your motor policy)
Typically the only time specialist insurers are better value for money is when the mainstream lenders are "twitchy" about something, vastly new tech will fall into this category. I would be very surprised if within a couple of years, assuming claims costs are not prohibitive then you would see the main lenders charging insurance thats on a par with an equivalent ICE based car. So repair costs, thefts, performance etc balancing out.

I'm getting pretty jealous seeing everyone taking delivery or receiving delivery dates. I've had no communication from Tesla at all. After an email last week and a two hour wait on the phone today, I gave up - I went to the showroom to complain. Was told "it's on a ship and will be September" (!!!). I reserved a few weeks before ordering opened and was order number ~400 on 1st May with an estimated delivery of June... Funnily enough, someone who ordered on 8th May with no reservation has a delivery date for next Monday. That's one way to make me bitter

I'm sorry to read that, Kemik. I think it's a real shame the dedication and support that early reservation holders like you have shown isn't properly rewarded. It's anybody's guess how they're prioritising deliveries - probably some random number generator somewhere. I just hope the car is worth it when you finally get it.
Hang in there Kemik - Tesla’s pre delivery experience is flat out bad and despite what some fanboys say there isn’t an excuse for it. I was a day one reservation and a day one order.
The car is incredible, quite a lot going on so it will take me a while to feel totally comfortable - the regen breaking in particular is quite jarring compared to a normal car - maybe it’s just my driving style.
Drove home in rush our traffic so didn’t get much chance to experience it’s speed - but from my limited experience it is very fast!

Placed my order yesterday for a SR+ in grey so I'll update on my experience. I had the opposite experience with regen after a few weeks driving an i3. Drove my old ICE car a short distance and immediately thought what's wrong it's not stopping then remembered, I have to use the brakes
Oh I’m sure when I get back into one of my ICE cars I will do that!
@booyaka it’s a performance without the larger wheels and brakes etc.
After another little drive I’ve discovered there is a “Chill” mode for acceleration that makes it less rocket ship like - I don’t think I’ll be using that mode much!

The blue looks really nice in your pictures, in others i've seen it's tended to look a bit 'meh'
i think the paint colour in pictures is very much dependent on the lighting as always - really depends on how you catch it.
facebook group I'm a member of is here, just over 1700 members atm and plenty of good info as well as frustrated res holders waiting for dates. fortunately i don't need to sell old car until after so i'm not to bothered or stressed atm. been waiting well over 3 years so a couple of weeks is nothing. just communication would be nice if it could be more consistent.

Found this interesting link to an online spreadsheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-l47Zmw4zL1D331PtghTQCAHYh1vC6P1wYkjZpjRD1o/edit#gid=0 detailing order dates, VIN assignment and delivery dates for various customers and listing the specs. If you sort it to the UK customers you will see that an early order date doesn't seem to translate to early delivery with some customers ordering later and receiving delivery first. This suggests they are simply matching orders against what they have built rather than the other way around. I agree that the Tesla sales support is poor. After chasing for several weeks I got an email saying that they are waiting to assign a VIN against my order and will notify me when they have but no indication of timescale.
