The Tesla Thread

That's a pretty positive report. I asked elsewhere on the internet and was flamed hairless for thinking it could ever be a family car.

Cheers for the review

Pretty sure that if you replaced the name Tesla with BMW/Audi/Mercedes then you would have had no one saying the same sized salon wasn't suitable as a family car, brand bias rather then logic from most people.

I sold it quite quickly for multiple reasons. My partner still sits in the back most of the time and our son just turned 2, so it would still have been a problem for us.

Shame it didn't work out for you but that seems really personal too, are you both quite tall? We did an 8 hour round trip from Bristol to Essex and back yesterday with no pause at the destination and I sat in the back of ours for the whole return journey behind the driver with no issues. But then I'm 5ft 8 and my wife is 5ft...

My son is 6ft and had a desktop across his legs in the back on the way home from Ikea today and still had room no problem.

Loads of room in the back of M3 - he sits behind me and I'm 6ft3

Not particularly so. 5ft 10” and 5ft 7”.

The fact that it was built like crap and really didn’t feel like a £53k car was a major contributing factor, along with the discomfort for passengers in the rear.

Didn’t realise I had a reputation :p

I’ll leave it there because I’ve said my piece about the car in previous posts and there’s little to no point upsetting people who do like their cars.

Nah just that not many people here have a M3, even less the performance, and even less not happy with it. Nothing against you and your decision!

Could sell my 2 year M3 for profit.... Madness of the 2nd hand market just now.

Paid £35340 after plug in grant 2 years ago, WBAC offering £36180 after 2 years and 11k mileage! Bonkers really.

No chance I will but crazy to think someone will pay that.

Yup, I’ve been looking at the used market for a long time hoping that prices would start to drop now the initial leases are coming to an end but prices have risen recently.

Its pretty crazy considering you can get a brand new SR+ with all the refinements from the last 2 years for £40.5k for delivery next month. I don’t know who is paying £38k for a 2 year old used one from a dealer but it’s just madness.

It makes no sense to buy a used SR/LR Model 3 and I’d be seriously annoyed if I had leased one due to the residuals.

That's crazy. I just got offered £38,115 and it cost me less than that (grant plus corporation tax). Given WBAC offer a good whack under market price so they can resell it at profit, that's surely coming out more than new??

2 x kids = full size estate or SUV. Thank me later.

I came from a GLC and was worried about having 'less' space in the Model 3, but the Model 3 packaging is actually really impressive. The boot is massive, even if the aperture is smallish. The middle seat is not too bad as well because there's no hump in the middle. I was sitting waiting for the Model Y and having had my Model 3 for nearly a year already now I'm pleased I didn't. The Y will be more practical, but it is more people carrier-esque than SUV.

If it's not a "family" car - what is it? Don't get that at all.

Wife has a mini cooper, I have M3, no issues, tons of space, can't comment on baby seats etc but I managed fine with baby seats/prams in a 2 door merc coupe!

Agreed. My brother drives an estate and he seems to take half his house whenever he goes out with his little one, some people just seem to want to take everything with them everywhere they go.

I do, and it's an excellent car! Very happy, despite its flaws. Wouldn't have an ICE ever again, and the next EV will have to be pretty special to beat it.

Anyone with a Model 3 have a screen protector on their main screen?

I am thinking of picking up a glossy protector from day 1, but I've seen a few videos of some with a matte protector (which seems better for fingerprints - at the sacrifice of clarity).

I’ve always looked at those products and asked myself ‘why’? The only conclusion I could come to is if you had kids who want to play the games etc.

Otherwise I don’t really see the point, you’d have to be pretty careless to scratch it. I get it for a phone that in and out of pockets where grit can potentially collect or could be dropped but I can’t really see that happening here.
