The Tesla Thread

Model 3 LR with the Boost for me, much better value imho. Also better sound over the SR and of course range. Wheels without the rims look great on the Grey I think :)

Has anyone found/can recommend a good phone mount?

built in one is too low and it heats up my mini too much and it doesn’t always engage and it kinda sucks tbh ( is it possible to disable the wireless charge permanently??)

The brodit one looked good but the position is right behind wheel i cant see it and it detracts the clean interior

the one that hook over monitor with sunglasses case gets bad review about strength of mount plus it seem to hold the phone too high

best one Ive seen is a suction cup gooseneck bent 180 stuck to back of screen but cant find one that looks like it will work and suction cups tend to suck

the one at end of dash looks nice but i don’t like my phone near the windows needs to be toward centre of car

do i really have to get creative here, no one sells an adhesive bracket with ball mount that i can stick onto the back of my montior?

What are you doing for phone mounts?

have you got a 235i ? how do you rate the sound i'm guessing you had the premium H/K system ? I''m not that impressed with tesla sound, but I could say it's OK. But the speed sensitive volume control, if it has it I'm still not sure, just doesn't work. I can't get the volume right at all. It's not as clear as the BMW and I don't like the big vol jumps and the volume lag compared to the BMW system, and the vol is tied to your phone setting rather than a separate system as well which is annoying.

I had a 235, then a 240 before moving to this. Both obviously had Harmen sound on them. I'd rate this up with them, no worse. I do find myself a few notches off of full volume regularly and the odd song really doesn't suit it but then the bmw was the same. Mostly listen to Spotify, I did try flac ripped to usb but I guess I'm not audiophile enough to really notice a massive difference, or certainly not enough to make the effort worth while.

I think my main dissatisfaction with it is the spotify implementation, resuming a podcast is hopeless as well as playlists where it doesn't work through them as it plays them on the screen. I hope they get it better with newer updates. Don't really notice the volume problems you talk about..

Daft question, but why do you need to mount your phone? I'd have thought the tesla would have most stuff in it?

waze. abrp. <insert sat nav app here> . media control. use as a phone. etc
Fair enough for water, but surely they all have sat nav and media control seems redundant as there's a massive touch screen next to your phone:confused:. I'm not trying to be awkward, but the people that seem to put phones on screens tend to do it in the worst possible places so they can only see half the road, and I don't know how they manage with night vision having a screen screwing up that.

you're basically asking why I would want to mount a phone in a car. Theres nothing unusual in doing this. If you touch your phone when its not mounted, then you are breaking the law, so there's nothing wrong with wanting it mounted properly. As for position and night vision, then number 1, as you will see I have not found a good position so far, I don't want it in my vision of the road, and B) at night time I just turn it off on to DND / Drive mode, or previoulsy I flip the flap over it, but you can have a phone quite dim as well, so it;s not been a problem for the last 6 years, really.
mondeo and bmw had EXCELLENT brodit mount systems. The tesla 3 brodit system looks half cooked and a bit poor, very unlike brodit.

as for sat nav and media control, tesla sat nav sucks so far. but theres nothing unusual either in using 2 systems, not least you can get updates that other one doesn't catch like problems ahead or diversions etc,, as well as being able to reference sat nav whiles the car system is showing something else obscuring it's map. I can use plugshare or somethign similar to find chargers very easily. I like using waze as well.

media controls, the car cant cue up bbc sounds, podcasts, apple music my own music library etc as far as i know. All things I use often. Sure I can use car control to pause and next etc, but if phone is mounted properly its pretty much the same but easier. And obviously I do this before driving I'm not a mad man.

couple of points re tesla sat nav system i've noticed over first 1000 miles driving:

1. it gives wrong directions on some round abouts
2. tells you to bear left or bear right when i means 'don't turn off'
3. destination in on the right. or left. one of those 2. you figure it out.

4. NO WAYPOINTS. WTF

5. doesn't seem to show any chargers except tesla superchargers. Even my BMW showed me petrol stations.
6. can't seem to have the textual overview (i.e. upcoming junctions) AND a close up map view.
when you press the overview button, it zooms out the map and you can;t zoom it in
7. don't seem to be able to zoom map to a set zoom level as desired.
8. whether i get sat or map only picture seems up to the tesla gods.

9. anytime i do somthing like bring up a menu or something the sat nav seems to get obscured (ok can probly deal with this, but the UI is a bit weird in this regard)

10. control over the voice level, relation to the audio level, and audio ducking seems all sorts of messed up. BMW had this nailed.
11. is there a way to get it to repeat the last spoken instruciton ?

any or all of the above may be wrong, misinformed, or actually totally correct but if you know any better let me know as a new tesla user still getting the hang of it.

That’s because you’ve got the 3 lightning bolts checked on the map. Tap on them to show 1 bolt for the slower 7kw chargers (typically destination ones) 2 bolts for up to 50kw (basically supermarkets). 3 bolts is superchargers which they promote.

FYI the sat nav voice level can be controlled. When it gives an instruction just turn up the volume. Or you can go in to the menu and turn up navigation sounds. I have mine on mute, but each to their own.

Sometimes the lightning button isn’t there. Ive not yet figured out what makes it appear and disappear yet. Will check it next time. Thanks

re sat nav volume does it change the relative volume or the absolute volume. Will do some more testing

Tap the map and the satellite / charger / zoom icons appear. Tap again and they’re hidden ;)

Has anyone regretted getting the white interior? There are threads on Tesla Motor Club about the seat belts in the rear causing stains, as well as child seat protectors.

I love the look of them and they’re softer than the black seats, but not sure if I want to sign myself up for years of agony.

No they’re fine colour wise. They are relatively soft though so can imagine something like a child seat could mark them in certain situations.

That’s certainly a worry. I have a seat protector that I will put down, but I’d also put a white towel or folded cotton sheet between the seat protector and the white seat.

I tried the sticky pad approach but the curvature of the front bumper meant I wasn't confident of them staying on. So I remove the outer surround, drilled the plates and screwed them onto the back plate. Looks a lot better.

Just to update… I installed the Velcro strips yesterday (they’re the same size piece as the plate itself).

For anyone considering the same, rest assured that there’s no chance in hell that the plate is coming off in my lifetime. The adhesive on the back of the plate is very strong, plus the Velcro itself is a really powerful type.

I accidentally touched the edge of the adhesive of the strip to the plate whilst trying to align it and I had to pull it with a significant amount of force to get it off.

Best way to purchase?

I’ve usually bought everything cash but I fancy finance this time round. Contract hire seems cheapest a month with the same deposit as PCP but I guess you don’t have the option to purchase at the end?

Is the Tesla loan worth it?

Had them for nearly 2 years for the most part they have been ok. I had some issues with marks that I couldn't get out but they just disappeared over time. I wouldn't even go near them if I had kids though.

i got the white, i think a lighter colour works best in any car. They are pretty thin feeling, and the side of the driver seat already showing looks like stretch marks after 1000 miles. Not leather . They feel like one of those stress toys thats satisfying to squish. They are soft like that.
