Fair enough for water, but surely they all have sat nav and media control seems redundant as there's a massive touch screen next to your phone
. I'm not trying to be awkward, but the people that seem to put phones on screens tend to do it in the worst possible places so they can only see half the road, and I don't know how they manage with night vision having a screen screwing up that.
you're basically asking why I would want to mount a phone in a car. Theres nothing unusual in doing this. If you touch your phone when its not mounted, then you are breaking the law, so there's nothing wrong with wanting it mounted properly. As for position and night vision, then number 1, as you will see I have not found a good position so far, I don't want it in my vision of the road, and B) at night time I just turn it off on to DND / Drive mode, or previoulsy I flip the flap over it, but you can have a phone quite dim as well, so it;s not been a problem for the last 6 years, really.
mondeo and bmw had EXCELLENT brodit mount systems. The tesla 3 brodit system looks half cooked and a bit poor, very unlike brodit.
as for sat nav and media control, tesla sat nav sucks so far. but theres nothing unusual either in using 2 systems, not least you can get updates that other one doesn't catch like problems ahead or diversions etc,, as well as being able to reference sat nav whiles the car system is showing something else obscuring it's map. I can use plugshare or somethign similar to find chargers very easily. I like using waze as well.
media controls, the car cant cue up bbc sounds, podcasts, apple music my own music library etc as far as i know. All things I use often. Sure I can use car control to pause and next etc, but if phone is mounted properly its pretty much the same but easier. And obviously I do this before driving I'm not a mad man.
couple of points re tesla sat nav system i've noticed over first 1000 miles driving:
1. it gives wrong directions on some round abouts
2. tells you to bear left or bear right when i means 'don't turn off'
3. destination in on the right. or left. one of those 2. you figure it out.
4. NO WAYPOINTS. WTF
5. doesn't seem to show any chargers except tesla superchargers. Even my BMW showed me petrol stations.
6. can't seem to have the textual overview (i.e. upcoming junctions) AND a close up map view.
when you press the overview button, it zooms out the map and you can;t zoom it in
7. don't seem to be able to zoom map to a set zoom level as desired.
8. whether i get sat or map only picture seems up to the tesla gods.
9. anytime i do somthing like bring up a menu or something the sat nav seems to get obscured (ok can probly deal with this, but the UI is a bit weird in this regard)
10. control over the voice level, relation to the audio level, and audio ducking seems all sorts of messed up. BMW had this nailed.
11. is there a way to get it to repeat the last spoken instruciton ?
any or all of the above may be wrong, misinformed, or actually totally correct but if you know any better let me know as a new tesla user still getting the hang of it.
