The Tesla Thread

I'd read tesla are looking at phasing out cobalt in their batteries. Wonder if they'll make them backwards compatible with current models if they do.

This is what the Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries are. Different BMS and characterists so just depends how and where they are built. The China cars are this as domestic law requires batteries to be made/sourced in that country so Tesla have use this a lever to introduce a lower cost model that now send to other markets.

Not seen that kind of cable before, looks braided, or is it some kind of additional sheath?
I put a braided wrap on the exposed part of the cable to tidy up the look

FYI it’s 10mm SWA cable as the distance to my supply was larger than 30m.

Speculation of new motors and / or battery types and supported by breakdown of the VIN numbers some are receiving

I was also told in CS Chat that some of the currently being shipped ( on the way from Shanghai) Q4 deliveries will have this new spec

From my VIN number (unconfirmed / found in the source code) CS think (if the VIN stays the same) I should get the new configuration

Multiple CS confirmations (including with me, twice :D) that the new, longer range, also comes with heated rear seats and steering wheel as
standard :)

Mine has heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel. That’s been in there for ages

It seems to be standard with the made in Shanghai models. Also, the SR+ has the heating elements in the rear seats etc. but they need to be purchase via a software update to use.

I thought that (as with a lot of features) the hardware is there and can be purchased or activated

I was told the "old" SR+ didn't have the heated rear seats or steering wheel (defiantly not on the spec when I ordered mine) - the seats were a £300 DLC (or part of the premium interior) and the steering wheel was (IIRC) part of the premium interior along with the sounds system

Not sure about the heated wheel, but the old SR+ definitely had the hardware it was just locked behind a paywall.

Does the new SR have the better sound system also? I seem to remember the dual motor had a su and the SR didn’t?

The configurator doesn’t say either way now.

Not sure on that and still some speculation as to what the in transit cars will / won't have (or some of them at least).

I'm still waiting on formal VIN allocation (although I have found a VIN number in the source code of my account page). Until it's confirmed CS won't advise of anything as not 100% allocated.

Given the order date and likely delivery estimate ("early December") I have an idea which ship it likely on - due into Southampton on the 27th November

New colours have appeared in the code of the latest firmware.

Abyss Blue Multicoat
Deep Crimson Red Multicoat (Elon has this colour)
Mercury Silver Metallic

Had a brief road test yesterday, 25 minutes brief. I've been sold on one for a while, but the Mrs needed convincing. Didn't take long!

Got home and decided on LR in red, placed order last night. Expected delivery late Feb - early March.

She's hassling me to research home chargers, any recommendations before I head off googling?

Easee Home. I have two, very small but a great app that gives you lots of info and let’s you do scheduled charging (although that’s now built in to the Tesla software).

I dont like the fact with Easee home you have to hang your cable up on a hook or use your car one. Love everything else about them though.

People seem to rate the hypervolt very highly, it’s a fully featured charge point.

The other two mainstays in that space are the Zappi and Anderson, both highly rated.

There are plenty of others out there though.

Unless you go Andersen (£££ and massive - seriously it's 1m tall) there's not many chargers out there that aren't massive and/or conceal the cable in a nice way.

The hypervolt is nice but it runs a Pi underneath and I didn't feel confident that it would stand the test of time
Zappi have been having supply chain issues and the protection inside is known to burn out - check out the Artisan Electric videos about it.

The Easee is relatively uncommon in the UK (which I find mental) as they're feature rich and allow daisy chaining and smart loading. If you're going to have more than 1 EV in the house, it's a no-brainer. I happen to have family in Norway that use them (that's where they're designed) and they're rock solid even in the harshest cold/snow. I also like the fact that you can tether and hang your own cable or unplug and neaten up the install. In fact, I found a cracking deal for a sealed Tesla Gen 3 wall connector on ebay for £200 but decided against it for the reason that the cable would be permanently wound around it.

Other features include locking the charger to specific RFID tags so that any Tom, Dick or Harry can't rock up and plug in to your charger when you're at work :D

Update: my dashcam isn't working.

From Googling around it seems that other people have had the same issue and it always comes with the same two tell-tale symptoms. Essentially, the dashcam won't record when in drive and the cabin overheat protection is greyed out in the UI.

There are several threads on Teslamotorsclub and other forums where the car hasn't been marked as "delivered" on the back end system even though the customer service insist that it is. I've put the car in to my local service centre over the weekend who have told me they can't solve the issue locally, so they've escalated to a higher level of support.
