The Tesla Thread

Does anyone have experience of the MY? Most reviews comment of the firmness of the suspension, but i've only seen one (probably independant) review that really slated it, saying it was essentially a deal breaker.

Another (maybe niche) question on the Tesla. So my house is sat in a complete mobile deadzone - not a single network gets a signal. Will this affect the ability to control the car from the app? Can the car connect to my home wifi network while parked outside (assuming I've got range, which I can sort out) and get around it?

I'm not sure what you mean about 'independent reviews' but I would just test drive a Model 3, the Model Y is basically the same in terms of ride. Its slightly bigger in all dimensions, higher seating position and had a tail gate but otherwise the experience is basically the same.

Firmer suspension is very much an EV 'feature' and you'll find most EV crossovers being firmer than their ICE equivalents. That said the Model Y is probably one of the firmest of them all, the flip side is that it not handle like a boat in the corners. I'd say my Model 3 isn't as firm as my wife's MX-5 but its much firmer than my old C4 hatch back which was about as firm as Jabba the Hut's stomach.

Yes, they can connect to WiFi. It's the only way they'll download OTA updates as well.

Also since they have a roaming SIM, they're pretty good at finding 'a' network unless you really are in a proper deadspot.

The youtube reviews i've seen all say it's firmer than the 3. It's taller to they've stiffened it up to prevent it leaning. In all video's you can see the camera jiggling like crazy. A lot of my cars have been firm riding so I can't imagin it would be too bad to me, but still...

I think it was this review that made me concerned. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlQwxLkv2z4&t=1027s He might just be a grumpy Scot though.

Sweet, should be fine then. I've pulled the trigger and reserved a M3LR from inventory. Collection will be from Cribbs Causeway. Have the VIN from the order invoice. Any ideas if its likely to already be in the UK? (Or know if there's any easy way to tell?)

If it had a location stated in the inventory then it is likely there. Most others state 'in transit'.

I've had my M3P a week now and honestly it's amazing, zero issues, zero rattles or base distortion. Only missing wireless mobile charging and front USB ports as warned.

Yep - well that moved fast, got the text with a collection date of the 30th December! Didn't expect that, even if it is an inventory order, though suspect they'll want to hit end of year targets and all that. Just need them to do final offer on my trade in now. Uploaded the photos and all details as they requested, hopefully it matches the estimate (or is close to it) otherwise that might change things a bit.

Got the xmas update, I'm now having to re-learn where everything is. Definitely has a more modern feel to it.

Only drawback is my passenger can now no longer play solitaire when stuck in traffic.

Not liking the new UI.

harder to access controls. Climate is a pain to get to for defroster etc. doesn’t even make sense in climate menu on the toggle between front and rear.

less one click menu items like heated seats, now 3 clicks to get to. 2 clicks for defrosters.

remote viewing via mobile app and blind spot camera view is nice though.

i also preview the new quick controls windows etc

I’ve had a quick play, my initial impressions are that it’s better in some places but worse in others. I’ve not driven anywhere yet so I will wait to pass final judgement.

As the person above said, some stuff just takes more clicks now.

Got it here

The new UI will take a bit of getting used to but the new blind spot camera feature is a nice touch. Also, sonic!
