The Tesla Thread

so if the battery life is 4x and you can charge the lfp to 100% without being afraid they should have good/better residuals than long range. -
not sure if other ev manufacturers are on the lfp train.

This is going to be a bit confusing when they put this in the whole model 3 range. Even then there'll be new and old types of cars (and possibly replacements on older cars too).

It's all about the energy density and efficiency of the drivetrain. Tesla can get enough LFP cells into a pack to get decent range so they can use LFP. Most of the others currently can't make the switch yet plus Tesla have probably had supply contracts in place for quite a while. CATL make most of the LFP (Prismatic) currently but BYD also have their owns car with LFP (Blade) I believe.

Tesla are believed to be working on their own LFP battery cell production which may or may not use 4680 (Cylindrical) cell form factor to further decrease pack size and help to increase range. LFP battery chemistry is also less volatile so not a bad idea to switch 2/3 of your production towards it.

BYD and chinese all over it, check out the blade battery. Don’t think it’s particularly a selling point for residuals, energy density of a nickel chemistry will always be your performance variant. Just Chinese made Tesla will have needed domestic sourced cells and batteries and LFP easier to scale.

Well I picked up my Model 3 Performance, white with black interior, last night.

It is insanely quick ☺️, going to check it over with a hand wash today in the light. But couldn't find any issues last night, well only the missing USB ports and wireless phone charger (due to chip shortage). Will be interesting to see how long it takes to resolve that.

Same combo as mine (suspect it's the most common), I'm actually getting used to the acceleration, even if you put your foot down to get to 30. Don't get me wrong, I still like the shove just feels like I'm acclimatised to it, might have to get a plaid next time:eek::D.

Yeah, same with the Gold R, initially felt very fast, once that wore off I had it tuned to 370bhp, but that also wore off. Still the difference to the power delivery is so striking, in the Tesla I'd already be alongside in an overtake by the time my Golf would have completed the kickdown and spooled up the turbo!

Both cars suffer from being so capable that it isn't as involving. But then they also aren't trying to dump me in ditches!

Drive around with the acceleration set to chill for a few days, then switch it back.

After having a loaner Model S for a few weeks (that was locked to chill) my model 3 felt so perky, it was mad. The slightest touch of the throttle and it was eager to go whereas chill mode is that much more… laid back.

Congrats, apparently the parts are already here so it shouldn't be long.

I made the mistake of straying back onto one of the Tesla forums and it appears some people are getting a bit vocal because Tesla is shipping cars with two slightly different tail light designs and its pot luck to what you get. It seems to be a new thing in addition to USB ports.

I can't say I even noticed the difference as they look the same when off.

So it looks like my SR+ has completely died! Neighbour alerted us to the alarm going off so went to check it, got it but not even enough power to wind the driver's window back up. Won't turn on or reset etc, Tesla unable to bring it online from their end.

Had two errors overnight viewable on the app saying electrical system power reduced, vehicle may shut down, and then after that vehicle shutting down. Don't know at what time.

Now can't lock it or anything, window still ajar, so just waiting for a call back about a tow truck and a loaner. Fortunately I'm at home so not stranded anywhere but I am staying overnight 100 miles away tonight, supposed to be leaving in 2 hours, and it's just parked on the road.

Will update!

I got the new tail lights, not that it would have been a massive issue. I think you get either the old lights and usb or no usb.

Yikes, you can pop the frunk with a 9v battery or 12v charger and then charge the 12v battery.

Has it died because it was at a low charge when you left it or has something gone seriously wrong?

The latter. Was on about 73% when I parked it yesterday. Yesterday when I drove it for a mile or so from work I had to do a full power off and back on because I had a message saying it needed 30 seconds to power up before driving, but the message was persistent/car wouldn't go into gear for the 5 minutes I waited before that.

As it stands tow truck has already arrived but he's gone to replace it with a side loader because I'm parallel parked, got a Model S booked with Enterprise that I'm collecting in an hour, and £70 Uber credit in the meantime/to get to Enterprise.

Had three call backs from Tesla with updates and a direct email to the case handler.

Obviously no car should just 'die' overnight but that aside I can't fault the service so far.

From reading, the 12v powers most of the system and the battery only lasts 3-4 years. If it does then the rear windows roll down. They are changing it in next year's model

That does sound unusual for any type of car. Are the dealer not providing a courtesy car, or are they covering costs from enterprise?

Yeah course, all covered. Couldn't get a car direct from Tesla purely because my local service centre closed at 12. Dropping the Model S from Enterprise off there on Monday and swapping it for a 'loaner'.

Yeah maybe. By the time the side loader came back I couldn't even lock/unlock it or get into it or the boot etc, totally dead.

They obviously felt the need to collect it though rather than doing a roadside repair/diagnostic?

Bye bye!

Out of curiosity why blank your number plate and not your neighbours!

Hope it's fixed quickly.....
