The Tesla Thread

So.... collected my M3LR from Tesla Bristol today. Turned up about and hour and a half early and found the car in the car park so managed to have a good look at the exterior of the car before going in. Zero issues with paint and panel gaps as best as I can see.

The Tesla shop was absolutely rammed, hadn't occured to me that the retail store would be so busy. In any case, skipped the queue and just went and asked to speak to someone at collections, all good there. Sorted my part-ex, barely looked at it - just checked the mileage and confirmed the VIN matched the V5C and that was done. He opened up the car for my to check over everything, seems the valeter was wearing muddy shoes/clothes when they wiped it down - marks over the front and rear seats. Wasn't particularly impressed considering first impressions are important - anyhow, dealer bloke ran off and got a man with some cleaning products. 20 minutes later, all looking like new and all good there.

Front USB ports and wireless charging pads missing as we thought might be the case. Not the end of the world. Car running V11 software already, though interestingly it's missing both Cuphead and Sonic from the arcade - apparently its not hit some of the latest cars due to 'bugs' in the games - we'll see what happens with that. Suspect its probably related to the missing USB ports as it needs a controller to play.

Otherwise, all good. Windows will need a decent clean at some point - sticker residue from the delivery stickers but not too bothered about those. Signed the final paperwork, phone app updated straight away and 30 day premium connectivity trial activated.

Easy enough process overall, not bad considering I only reserved an inventory car last week. We'll see how long it takes to get that retrofitted USB/wireless charger sorted. They've said they're looking to get them done by end of Jan but will take that with a pinch of salt!

Mine expired this week. I'm going to leave it for a while to see how I fair.

Over the course of the free month, I found that I only really used the TuneIn radio stations as I don't have spotify premium and enjoy the radio when driving.
Also, with the TuneIn I had problems with having to re-select the station on every journey for some reason.

Now I've moved back to DAB. To be honest I can't tell the difference.

What's people's thoughts on premium connectivity, with it or not? I know it's a very personal question, I'm just on the fence as my trial expires next week.

It gives you Spotify premium, sadly though I already pay for that. I like the simplicity of always having the internet connection though and it's required if you want to remote view sentry cameras.

So my girlfriend is having issues (already..) she keeps complaining about having to use the keycard. She has an iphone 12 pro max, I have an S21 Ultra. Both set up at the same time when we collected the car.

Everything working flawless with my phone, walk away, it locks itself, not had to use keycard at all. She walks away from it and it doesn't lock. She has to go into the app and manually lock it. When she walks up to it she has to use keycard to enter, gets in the car it won't let her drive off until she's presented the keycard, again.

I've checked her settings, made sure that her location/privacy/bluetooth settings are all as they should be.

Done a bit of googling and I can't find anything other than 'uninstall/reinstall app'. (Which she has yet to do.)

Just wondered if anyone has had any similar issues?

Is her Bluetooth defo on all the time and the Tesla app running in the background?

I have a OnePlus and works 99% of the time but if I've "closed all" apps I sometimes have to reload the app for it to recognise me / the phone to auto open and / or lock on walk away

Yeah I suspect I'll be sticking with it when my 30 day trial is up. Live traffic on the maps and Spotify premium streaming are the main ones for me. I could probably get by without it, but meh.

On a seperate note, lots of opinion and 'facts' online about best practices for charging the car. What does everyone do with theirs? I'm currently considering keeping it topped up to either 80% or 90% each night (once my EV charger gets installed in a couple of weeks).

After spending whatever ££ on the car, just get premium connectivity and forget about it imo. Seems silly to lose so much functionality including traffic over the price of a couple of pints a month, and I'm guessing if 5 year's connectivity was included/added onto the price you'd still have bought the car, so!

Shouldn't let the battery drop below 20% if you can avoid it, charge to 80% for day to day or 90% for long trips, and for those of us who had ours sat around in lockdown the advice is to store at around 60-70% if not driving for a very extended period (like 1-2 months plus).

And the official advice is to just keep it plugged in whenever feasible.

I charge mine to 90% as I'd read that's what tesla recommend. Anyone had a recall about a coax cable wearing through in the "trunk" area?

With the premium connectivity, I thought you still had to pay for spotify premium separately?

I'm sure I read there should be an option on the app to use a provided Tesla account when you go to log in. I used my own account.

Note live traffic is only for the UI, routing uses live traffic regardless of premium subscription.

The new LFP battery can (and is reccomended) 100% charge

I'm a bit meh about premium, I can stream Spotify from my phone

You get Spotify with a built in account as part of premium connectivity.

To use it out of the car and sync stuff etc you can also bring your own Spotify.

I've spent the last three months without it and got on fine. That being said I re-subscribed on Boxing day to check out the live sentry mode functionality and realised how much I missed the live traffic visualisation. Plus I noticed that Youtube wasn't defaulting to the Netherlands anymore. Will probably keep it now as I suspect there will be more things put out as "Premium Connectivity only" in the future.

Heads up: Tesla are recalling 2017-2020 Model 3s for an issue with the rear camera cable.

Specifically the cable kinks when closing the boot on these models, so over time the cable can break.

Check your VIN on the Tesla recall page to see if you’re affected https://service.tesla.com/vin-recall-search

Yeah mine is flagged. Given it's already in for a service I'll let you all know what happens!

I think I posted about this earlier:p. I've been having issues with the visualisation not err visualising and sometime none of the 3 rear cameras come on when reversing. I'm booked in for my original issues later this month, but I'm going to ring and try and get the recall done at the same time.
