The Tesla Thread

Drove with v11 on the motorway... The indicator camera feature seems a little ill thought out. The display of the camera is literally behind my hand if holding indicator and kinda obscured by knuckles if hand on steering wheel. Think I'll stick to regular blind spot checks... That is one area where I'd prefer to have regular blind spot indicators in the mirrors. It just feels more natural.

Also, they seem to have removed the save dashcam button from the top menu. I couldn't find it. Probably should enable the beep to save feature.

Some discussion of that here: https://www.reddit.com/r/teslamotor..._update_202144252_save_dashcam_while_driving/

They are not dense enough so not any time soon. The 60 kWh pack in my model 3 is not that much smaller physically than the 75-82kwh pack in the various versions of the long range car.

The next battery for the long range cars will be Teslas own larger cylindrical cells.

Thanks

Jeez, it's almost impossible to find a spec list on the models 3s. I guess it's because they change every year.

Unless I'm mistaken, the LR gets you the matrix lights, fog lights, mats and upgraded audio (subwoofer/tweeters)...and that's it? (SR+ now has the heated rear seats I understand).

oh, and LR now includes the performance 0-60 boost down to 4.2 secs which before you had to pay £2k for.

SR+ range 317 vs LR 375. What's the actual range this time of year? I read on the tesla reddit someone in a long range (pre heat pump) was only getting 150 miles which seems a bit crap.

Have to say, the SR+ does look tempting.

The 'new' SR+ is undoubtedly the best value if you live in the UK and don't do 1000's of miles per week, or crave the faster acceleration.

LR is a lot extra for some spare miles you'll carry around with your as extra buffer 95% of the time.

That's what I'm thinking. That extra buffer is nice on the odd day you need it (not many for me), and the matrix and audio is also a nice to have....but £7k worth?

LiFePo4 battery suits full range charging much better as well, so you can happily push it to 100%, and down to 2% without taking too much out of the pack in terms of life span.

Thanks

I did this comparison a few weeks ago and ended up with the SR/RWD. I was always planning on getting the long range but when they bumped the battery in the SR, I couldn't really justify the extra £7k for:
50ish miles extra range I'd rarely use (by my reckoning the SR is a realistic 200-250 miles @ 70 vs 230-280, the lower being a cold wet winters day again the upper being a calm summers day)
Extra power but the RWD is already plenty fast already
Extra speakers and subwoofer
Front fog lights (RWD are blanked off)
Extra interior lighting

For reference, the RWD/SR comes with the same matrix headlights and floor mats as all the other cars. Don't get your hopes up with the matrix function though as its not actually implemented on any cars outside the lightshow gimmick. All cars now come with heated rear seats and steering wheel.

ah that's interesting to know. Thanks!! I wish Tesla would have a page on their site with the full specs.

so basically £7k gets you a little extra range, quicker to 60, fog lights, subwoofer and some interior leds?

as mentioned a few pages back, the awd would be helpful in say the snow....but it doesn't snow that often these days.

They do, scroll to the second from bottom section of the main Model 3 page, select compare for the power/acceleration and expand list for the interior/exterior differences (the two differences listed there are the LED fog lights and speakers). :)

I wouldn't worry about the snow unless you live at the top of a mountain, its so easy to control an electric car at slow speed due to the drivetrain and there being no clutches or revs to worry about. If snow is a particular concern due to location, I'd grab a set of all season or winter tyres.

ah found it, thanks. It's not brilliant as it mentions nothing about the ambient lighting.

Have you got yours yet?

Yes, I've had my SR/RWD for a about a month now.

I may be wrong about the lighting, it was something I picked up from some forum posts talking about people swapping them for more powerful LED's so it may be out of date. I've don't know anyone with a current long range to compare side by side though. Apparently you can also buy a 3rd party wiring loom to plug in the missing speakers but I don't know how current that is either.

Thanks again mate. The SR does seem decent value.
