The Tesla Thread

Ouch, I hate it when that happens. :(

Me too especially when the car is less than 8 weeks / 1800 miles old

Ouch, didn’t fancy a repair?

That could be plugged, surely?

That's a pretty big hole.

Yeah the tyre guy was quite surprised at its girth (oh Matron!)

The low pressure light came on while I was on the motorway, by the time I'd pulled to the inside lane and brought up the pressure the car went into limp mode to avoid skid risk. Luckily I was approaching. Junction, came off and straight into a garage with an air pump. Too flat to inflate so pulled into a.parking spot and called for a repair.

If it was just the hole it may have been able to be repaired, but running the (heavy) car on a flat tyre had also cracked / damaged the side wall and they couldn't reccomended repair

That's a big hole, whys the rubber around it look weird?

The tyre guy reckons from the size and shape of the hole it's been a bolt with the head causing that odd shape / texture round the edge

Ouch and sounds like a lucky escape really and could have been worse.

Did you manage to get the same tyre put back on it? I’ve seen lots of people have had to go for the non-foam lines versions due to stock issues.

Yeah, in hindsight I was very lucky, especially the speed the tyre deflated. Although scary and frustrating at the time, the car engaging "limp mode" definately helped

Yeah the same tyre

Tesla didn't think they had any like for like tyres (I was 2.5 miles from a SC) they called a tow company. Tow company called and said they had "loads" of them and definately more than the local Tesla garage. They stockpile whenever they come in ...

So for those of you that have had model 3s for a long time, will you be proactively changing the 12v battery? Think someone on here had one fail, and quite a few Americans seem to do it (though i realise only people with problems post on the internet:p).

What colour do you have?

I have the red one. They stand out like a sore thumb, one is on the bonnet, the others are on the nearside rear passenger door seal.

The bonnet chip could happen at anytime, every car I've owned has had a bonnet/bumper chip at some point in it's life.

The door seal chips are I think from where our drive isn't finished yet. We've had some type 1 put down (and it's going 'sticky' in this cold damp weather) before asphalt/tarmac in a few weeks and it's sticking in the tyres and flicking up the undersides as I drive to work each night. Makes me cringe as I pull off the drive :(

Wash the car and put it in the garage to hoover it out etc and this is what happens.

May as well not bother cleaning it! Chip repair kit comes Monday, so I'll see how that goes then.

So mine is now ordered, going to be a long few months.

Can anyone tell me how the numberplates are attached, I’ll be putting my plates on and am hoping that I can get away with my shorter plates, but if there are going to be holes in the bodywork that are wider than my short plates then that’ll be a no-go.

They use horrid plate holders. The front has two holes, to hold the plate holder, they are not far apart. The rear has similar holes but also a large indent, that might be more tricky.

I went for vinyl front (filled holes). The rear I removed some of the holder and screwed to the rest.

Interesting, have you got any photos to show what you’ve done, especially to the rear?

There was another red one in the Tesla model 3 Facebook group this week with lots of similar paint chips, the owner has decided to get shot of the car after 3000 miles because of it. There is also a thread there where lots of people in all colours have had paint flaking off sills revealing white underneath as well and having to be repaired (badly in some cases - leaving trim on and masking around it). I guess buying a white one is the safest option! But it must sting when the red costs so much more.

I replaced mine too as the stock holders are awful. I got a vinyl for the front but the rear is trickier because of the shape, indent and screw holes so I kept the metal plate but have just stuck it on with double sided tape plate.

Yeh that's the hard part to swallow, paint was £2k extra. Don't want to go down the 3M clear vinyl route, but may have to if it's going to end up looking like a pepper pot.

Whip the god awful holder / surrounds off and attach the new plates to the back plate

If you have a short plate, you'll have to remove the back plate too

Picked my Model 3 LR up today and I'm very happy with it - definitely has the AMD Ryzen processor and the Li-ion 12V.

Only quality issue is the front trunk isn't perfectly aligned but I've logged it and they'll fix it, otherwise the build quality seems a lot better than some of the earlier cars.

Took a few quick pics when I got home but they're not great because of the snow, sorry!
