The Tesla Thread

My wife is disappointed that premium connectivity is now only 1 month. I didn't think it would affect things (colours maps are a nice to have for instance) but it completely removes the ability to listen to TuneIn.

Poor form, Tesla :(

Can't you connect to your phone as a WiFi hotspot? That's how I listen to Spotify (with various results).

I just use Bluetooth and just stream it off my phone. Less messing around.

I’m too cheap to even get premium Spotify, a car subscription was never going to get subscribed to :D

I like to purchase the Spotify premium gift cards on eBay and redeem them against my account. You can get them for approx. half price if you catch a good sale and you don't need to worry about a sub, I was just honestly shocked that the premium connectivity nerfed so much of the infotainment beyond the obvious maps stuff.

I’m not sure it’s any different to any other car with the exception of the lack of CarPlay/android auto but I’d include the latter as phone streaming.

The only other thing you lose are traffic lines on the map, satellite maps and live camera views when parked.

Does anyone actually sit in their car and watch Netflix/YouTube etc on the screen?

Edit: I should add that I did sub for premium for a few months and stopped as I didn’t see £10 a month benefit.

You can also get Tidal for about £2 via the usual VPN trick.

carplay you would be getting lossless encoding akin to aptX via wi-fi , but with phone bluetooth the available bandwidth won't do justice to a spotify 320kbs premium bitrate,
if you can use a bluetooth AAC protocol that is good, but the media has to be available in AAC and not re-encoded.

Latest software update is propagating with the new Energy App.

Reminds me of my previous i3 which had a trip/driver rating screen.

EDIT: This was from my car today after the update.

New colours launched in Europe and Germany

Midnight cherry red and quicksilver (silver). Not sure if they’re specific to the model Y but they’re not available on the configurator… yet.

€3000 upgrade, although I’ve seen some cases where orders of red/midnight silver have been bumped up automatically.

Red does look nice, wonder if they stick it to the front of the queue to encourage people to pay for it?
