The Tesla Thread

Had more first world problems yesterday. As it was a bit nippy it was just enough to reduce the tyre pressures so the car was complaining. Think I did them to 42 in summer, but I think I calculated the change to be about 1psi per 10 degrees. Might have to top them up at the weekend.

So my renewal came up for my M3P for £570 with Churchill, this is their premium cover, so driving abroad etc all covered.

I did a comparison quote on TopCashback and found it for £470, I then remember I have to add the fact I claimed to fix a windscreen chip. Cheapest came back at £270!?! I ended up renewing with Churchill for £330?!?

Spotted Tesla have cut supercharging costs again this week, some sites are down to 34p/kwh, that is seemingly the price I remember paying when I first got my car a year ago.

If you have a non-tesla, some of their open sites are under 50p, that's almost reasonable!

I didn't think windscreen chips were claims? (Although if it gives you a discount I wouldn't complain).

Had my number plate and VIN through, due to collect on 9th December... just undecided if I'll go ahead.

Been looking at leases and pricing up a cheap runabout but time is running out to find an alternative. Been borrowing a car for 3 months now so need to find something soon or bite the bullet.

May delay until March and see how things shake up - any rumours of model changes or tweaks?

It's constantly changing... Tesla definitely don't align their changes like traditional manufacturers, so you do not know what you will get and what you get won't stay the same one week to the next.

* Removal of ultrasonic sensors, with a promise of Tesla vision backfill
* Uprated cameras, lots of confusion if this is a thing)
* Tweaks to auto high beam and auto windscreen wipers.

I don't think I'd wait for anything tbh, a December car is likely to have the ultra sonic sensors, you will have been notified if not.

To put it in perspective, over 11 months I've taken 24 software updates, 11 of them adding significant change and the rest being bug fixes to the 11 larger releases.

As above, there are traditional model years with Tesla. They update the production as they do and you do get scenarios where there are two slightly different spec cars being delivered in the same qtr like now where some have ultrasonics and others are all in on vision based park assist (software to be added after delivery).

When I ordered mine, I got a slightly faster motor from the old spec and the new bigger battery from the new spec car.

I was expecting the new spec with the bigger battery and slightly slower motor kicked in which was due in the next QTR.

The changes Qtr to qtr are not normally significant and if you don’t pull the trigger at some point you’ll be forever waiting for the next delivery as they tend to make 2 or 3 changes a year.

I have seen rumours of refreshed autopilot cameras and hardware but nothing conclusive, I wouldn’t hold out for that. Working FSD isn’t coming to the U.K. any time soon.

The cars for a March delivery will be being built in January, it takes a month for them to get here on a boat so you’ll get what is produced then if you put it off again.

As above - take it if you want it - don't if you don't.

Otherwise you'll be forever waiting on the next "upgrade" etc....

No regrets with my M3 for nearly 3 years and now 6 months with MY - nothing to fault.

Just to confirm, it popped up a week or so ago that they’ve been removed… had to sign to say I was still happy to proceed.

May well be the actual car I get has the sensor but not counting on it.

This is my 2nd model 3, so aware they’re constantly changing just wondered if there was any rumours of big changes in the pipeline (like the new colours the EU have).

My model 3 and the wife’s Y have had issues… perhaps I’m just unlucky but not overly impressed with the quality.

What happened to the first one, it can’t be much more than a year since you got it?

Long story but I effectively rejected it with the finance company and handed the car back. Had some issues that they tried to repair (but weren't resolved) so asked for my deposit back.

The assumption was that they were going to replace the car but I later found out that they "don't do that" and they put me at the back of the queue

I've been driving around in an old Corsa since May but due to lead times getting any new car at the moment is hard and used cars are still holding price, so part of me is torn thinking I'll end driving this car for a while yet or I take it on the chin now and get another Tesla. Downside is I'll be paying a lot to have a new car sat on the drive at a time where I'll be working from home 60% of the time.

You asked about colours, but it seems unlikely as it looks like our cars will continue to come from China.

Ofc with my sample size of one and having perfectly fine panel alignments and zero build quality complaints I think that's a good thing. But I guess your experience is different..

@Black Noir Ahh fair enough, I do remember you weren't happy with the original one but didn't know it had gone back. I know what you mean, my car is wasted at the moment. I do about 4,000-5,000 miles a year and a lot of that is now just local stuff. It's not right that a big diesel should be used that way.

Ours isn’t used to commute at all but I have still somehow managed to cover 12k.

Had a couple of rattles develop on mine since owning it but nothing a ranger couldn’t resolve on my driveway. Pretty convenient service actually.

It did have to go back to have all the scratches the cleaners put in it when they did the pre delivery wash though. The bodywork was fine until they touched it with their grit covered rags.

Panel alignment is definitely improved from the US made vehicles but I had more than a few issues (paint quality, interior creaking, charge port sometimes stopping charge for no reason to name a few. When the wife got a model Y I thought it was perhaps just my bad luck but hers has developed an issue with the passenger headlight flickering. Likely a poor connection or some sort of short but it's not inspired confidence in the build quality.

Do you take the Feekmobile out for a motorway blast?
