The Tesla Thread

Sadly the MS wasn’t to my expectations.

I’ve decided to go smaller and look at the model 3s. Seems you can get a newer car with similiar/less mileage to the MS I was looking at.

Those with M3LR’s what’s the “real world” mileage you guys get?

Almost impossible to say cause I'm too chicken to let it run down too low but it can easily do 2+ hours driving on motorway (at 70ish, the damned thing has a freakishly accurate speedo according to gps) without making me panic about getting a charge.

Battery guess-o-meter says 80% charge on mine is just under 240 miles and in summer it does seem like it could get close to that. In the winter its so much lower its not funny.

Mine is a 2019 so smaller battery than the newer ones.

It depends on what year as newer cars have materially more range (bigger battery and a heat pump which uses less energy).

As a general rule, whatever the WLTP number is for that car, knock off 1/3 and that’s a conservative winter (cold/damp) estimate when driving down the motorway to the posted limits with a ‘oh **** this (non-tesla :p) charger doesn’t work’ buffer at the end.

Knock about 15-20% off the WLTP for summer.

Model Y is the best selling car in Europe and 2nd best selling car in the U.K.

Model 3 still does a lot of sales these days although it’s dropped out of the top 10. The Y is the form factor everyone always wanted.

What is the deal with model 3 performances being so cheap?

They are the cheapest 400+ BHP car on the market that is less than 3 years old by quite some margin. Mid 20k for a car that will do 0-60 in 3 seconds seems a bit of a bargain. There must be some sort of catch to why they are so cheap?

Model 3 is also having a major refresh very soon - there have already been some upgrades like moving the infotainment to ryzen instead of atom, and moving to a lithium low voltage batter instead of a lead acid. The older model 3s are aging spec wise.

They are barely 3 years old and have lost circa 40k in depreciation. That is 7 series/S Class amounts of depreciation. It has to be more than that? Similar aged M340i's are almost 10k more expensive, are slower and require fossil fuels.

As a PHV driver I’ve been looking to go to EV. Looked at a few model S’s but didn’t really gel with them. All were 17/18s models.

My fuel costs on the diesel are rather high and I can cut this by home charging/solar. Sadly, due to range I’ll have to miss the airport runs and do local jobs which I’m not too bothered about.

My biggest worry is, battery failure. Or something else electrical that’s going to deem the car off the road for a lengthy period of time.

With a diesel I’m handy with a spanner so I can attend but electric not so much.

Not sure what to do as the prices are now tempting, cars are higher mileage 70/80k that fall into budget. Yet, I have my reservations as I’ve read some good stories and some bad.

On m3 I understand it’s 8 years or 100/120k warranty on the battery/drivetrain? Dependent on which version you go for. After that? Can it be extended?

I’ve never been this confused with a potential car purchase tbf.

I know, my brother is taking a break from M4's, TTRS' etc and got a M3P and is loving it..

£29k gets a reasonably low miler.. almost tempted to swap the Mrs ID.3 for one..

When were they £65k?

I just had a quick look on the website with a few options and it came to 65k. Basic now is 58K.

Whether it is 40,30 or even 20k I was just asking why they have depreciated so fast. You seem so hung up on the 40k point which I don't really care about. I more care about why they have lost so much money so quickly.
