The Tesla Thread

Back in 2019 there was a run of Performance cars but without the performance pack as it was back then. They are basically an LR with the motors fully un-corked to performance spec but lack the bigger wheels brakes and spoiler (and the range hit from those items). It was a few K cheaper to buy as well.

Back to the depreciation point a 3-4 year old car has lost 45-55% of its value. That seems normal to me?

Not compared to contemporary ice cars. The similar priced M340I is worth about 10K more used at the same age.

We only do 10-15k miles a year collectively so would save ~1.5k a year on fuel. Over 5 years with the savings compared to an ICE if I were to buy now I would need an ICE around the 19K margin to cost the same over the next 5 years. Seems like quite a bargain. I don't see any 3 year old ICE cars coming even close to that price point based on an ownership perspective of 5 years.

Well, there's a real comparison with like-for-like(ish)

Seems like a 5k difference.

Surely the comparison should be an M3/4 to a model 3? I'm also laughing at the 'basic' model 3, it's not like it has anywhere near the options to choose from as something like a porsche, infact what options are there FSD and that's it?

White interior if you love cleaning and 5 paint options.

Wheel upgrade on the non-performance models. I personally wouldn’t bother with the wheels, the lower profile rubber increases the risk of pothole damage to the wheels and tyres. 18”s are plenty big enough for a Model 3 IMO.

I agree the 19 or 20s that are on my model 3 (performance) make me wince and I avoid potholes like the plague (probably look like a drunk driver on some roads :p ). I kind of wish I'd gone white interior, but I do have kids, and my son has a habit of coating everything in mud.

Yes it should really but the M3/4 is at a whole different level price wise whereas the M340i is more similar RRP. The M3/4 is an 80k+ car new. I was merely comparing prices not specs. You obviously get a lot more shove for your money with leccy.

It was just something that has come up on my feed by how much second hand EV's have dropped like a stone compared to similar ICE cars making them quite the bargain. Not really sure why they have dropped so much though. I never really entertained EV's as they were so expensive but residuals seem to be pants so keeping one long term might be an option.

Can anyone remember when they made the switch to the LFP battery pack for the Model 3 RWD model? Was it the 70 or 21 plates?

The Tesla accessories stores doesn’t list a tow bar for the Model 3. Is it not possible to add one to a car post-purchase?

Anyone got an real world experience of the model Y rwd standard range only?

For new work company car, long range is looking out of my budget unfortunately, but I may be able to get RWD into it just……

how is it on long journeys? Charging / more stops a pain, or people not really finding it an issue due to quick top up capabilities?

we don’t do many long journeys, 1 every couple of months say, but just wondering…..

I have this one. The range thing really isn't an issue with the supercharger network. For example on a recent round trip I had to top up in Guildford - added 100 miles in 10 minutes which got me home no problem!
The car's great. It's the slowest tesla ever but it's really not that slow...

Not sure for the 3, but for the Y it had to be done by the service center, wasn't possible to buy one and DIY. They recommended I spec a towbar when I ordered the car, which I did.

I had a tow bar installed post-purchase on my Model Y, but I'm tempted to get a Model 3 as our second car. I really want one with a tow bar though, and not keen to buy a brand new one. Since you can spec a tow bar on a factory order Model 3, I'm surprised that you can't buy one from the Accessories store.

Model 3 can’t tow unless it was factory fitted.

Source: Model 3 owner who wanted to get a tow bar fitted :p

The reason is the car is missing a bar that bolts on the back of the chassis which the tow bar attaches to. As it didn’t come equipped from the factory, the towing capacity is zero on the rating plate so even though it’s technically possible to retrofit it’s still a nope from a legal perspective.

That sucks, but thank you. That’s going to make finding a suitable secondhand RWD with LFP really difficult.
