The Tesla Thread

That sucks, but thank you. That’s going to make finding a suitable secondhand RWD with LFP really difficult.

Yeh, not many around with tow bars and I’d imagine the ones that have are nearly all long range.

One thing to consider is that there are also 2 sizes of LFP packs that Tesla have used. The bigger 60kwh version came in during Q4 2021. Cars on a 71 plate like mine could have either the old 55kwh version or the new 60kwh version like mine. Mine also has the older faster motor.

I think the original LFP pack came in during Q4 2020.

Oh something else about the RWD one - it has an LFP battery not a NMC (I think the LR is NMC?) - and the LFP likes to be kept at 100% when its idle, so none of that 80% daily nonsense unless you plan a long trip a day ahead of time.
The advice is to charge it to 100% at least once per week.

Contrary to popular belief, that doesn’t mean you should keep it charged to 100% all the time. The intention is that you charge it to 100% to balance the cells (say overnight), use it the next day and then plug it back in when it needs charging (E.g. when you’ve used a meaningful amount of power).

At the end of the day it’s still a lithium-ion battery and storing the battery at 100% all the time still increases battery degradation like it does on an NMC pack.

The benefit of LFP is that it’s more stable and degrades slower if treated the same as an NMC pack. Just bear in mind you’ll not get the most benefit of that lower degradation if you have the car pegged at 100% all day every day.

A practical example is that we don’t use our Model 3 to commute in the week so I don’t charge it to 100% on a Sunday night because it would be sat for the best part of 5 days at 100%.

That said, if it’s a lease/PCP and you’ve got no intention of owning it long term, it’s not really your problem.

The charge to 100% thing on LFP batteries is mostly for the BMS to calibrate the capacity, if its not charged to 100% every so often it gets confused about the remaining capacity.

Unless the LFP is different, driving with the battery at 100% feels like driving a completely different car because you have about zero regenerative braking for 5-10%.

The majority of model 3s I’ve seen all seem to have pitted/scored discs. Is this a normal thing because the brakes are used minimally?

What’s more concerning is no mention of them in recent MOTs before the cars have been advertised.

Anyway, I decided to bite the bullet and reserve a M3P. May as well get the fast one.

Pretty much every Model 3 on the roads in the UK is only old enough to have had 2 MOT's at the most.

Can vars not be retro grading (not sure if the right phrase) for towing then, or can it be done and its just exorbitant?
Can’t be done on a model 3, not legally anyway.

Even if you disassemble the back of the car and install the missing parts, the rating plate still says zero and will always say zero. If the police/VOSA pull you or you are in an accident, you are stuffed.

Model Y on the other hand is no problem. If it doesn’t have it then Tesla will ‘retrofit’ for £1,200 and basically involves installing the trailer plug, coding the car and handing you the hitch.

That's what I wasn't sure, if it could be 'rerated' or not.

Rumour has it Tesla will be offering 0% finance on all Model 3 models. This is to go live tomorrow, and last up until the end of August. Cars are to be collected by the end of September.

Ready for the refresh launch in Q3/Q4 by the sounds of it!

Apparently it’s already available via car wow.

Shame it’s not on a model Y, I’m looking to swap to one in the near future.

I wonder if it'll apply to inventory models too.

I had a Model 3 loan car this week whilst my Model Y was in for repairs. It's such a bloody good car to drive! Corners so much flatter than the Y, and the accelerator is mapped differently so it feels more urgent. The low seating position makes it much more appealing to "drivers".

I checked on carwow and it did state something a long on the lines of offers on used inventory but may have misread.

Notices my spoiler is starting to delamination on the leasing edge (not uncommon with cf). Tried to do a warranty claim and came vack at 850 quid. Realised it was a maths fail as the car is 69 plate :p. Needless to say I'll put up with it.

Just to show you what I meant.

That’s normal ingress. You’re isn’t too bad, I saw some that were so bad.

If it bothers you just replace with one of aftermarket. More or less the same thing these days.
I'm more bothered about damage to the boot if it try to take it off. Is the standard approach hairdryer and fishing wire?
