The Tesla Thread

The idea of AC twin chargers was pretty amusing. You rattle off all sorts of rubbish on all subjects, I know it, the forums know it, in truth you know it.

Defensive? I've spent the last 6 months drawing electric cars.

Not this thread and not even recent. Oh no I made a mistake.
Now try again, what in this thread have I said which is stupid?

You make such a comment on a regular basis.

In the states with 110v maybe 36hrs.... Unless they have a dryer outlet in the garage with that mystical 240 volts.

Home charging is how 95% of EV drivers do most of their charging.

Last two sentences; no idea what your trying to say.

It's pretty easy to install a 240V socket in most houses. In a lot of places you can do it yourself (with a quick inspection afterwards). It's not exactly difficult or expensive to do and I'd definitely do it if I were getting an electric car.

The most difficult bit is trying to control a piece of electrical cable that would rival those hemp ropes they use to moor ships...

0-60mph in less than 6 seconds
215 mile range
115 000 orders placed already

Styling looks typically Tesla which I like.

Placed my deposit online at 3:30am and watched the announcement at 4:30am, I never normally bother watching car or tech announcements but combine them and I get all giddy!

I felt a bit for Elon Musk, he's clearly no Steve Jobs when it comes to presenting and the audience were incredibly annoying which can't have helped.

The only thing that scares me about electric cars is obsolescence and depreciation caused by the pace at which the technology is improving.

You could say the same applies to cars with an ice I suppose, but it seems that you could buy an electric car today and in 6 months there'll be a self-driving version with a battery that increases range by 50%, which will immediately destroy the value of the one you bought.

The idea really appeals though. For employers that allow free charging at work, that's basically free commuting.

Nice one Del Lardo. I watched the reveal live as well. The specifications of the car look great - 0.60 in 6 seconds (for the slowest version), 215 miles (EPA rated), autopilot and supercharging standard across the range (the latter wasnt 100% guaranteed).

115,000 orders is fantastic!

My boss has a Tesla and it is amazing... 0-60 in around 5.5 secs and so quiet and smooth it is eerie. There are basically no manual control dials or readouts and everything is controlled by a HUGE capacitive touch-screen... **** knows what happens if this fails while you're on a trip.

My only concern, other than electrical failure, would be what happens if you are journeying in an area with no dedicated quick charging stations.

I can only dream of a future where solar technology improves to the point where cars fill up on the go. :p

With the impressive specs of the Model 3 I can see less and less reason to have a Model S over a Model 3. Especially with the expected price points of the higher spec versions knocking on the door of the entry-level Model S, I can see Tesla pushing the S further upmarket. This will start with the deletion of the 70D, and the introduction of a 100D, and so on.

Quite interested currently drive a Zoe and that's great for going to and from work (16 miles), however we still own two normal cars for going any further :)

i had a test drive in a zoe the other day. and whilst i could have made it work ended up going with a fiesta on 2 year lease. not sure if that was long enough to make my next car a model 3, but i hope so.

The people that hated on Mercedes and Audi for stuck on tablet screens are going to love this :p.
The exterior looks amazing !!

They won't because Tesla's hip branding will act like a reality bending force field.

Most will claim it's amazing (much like the model S screen) despite them having criticised other manufacturers.

Also, pretty staggering that everyone is ga-ga over a silent, automatic car, whereas any automatic, 4 cylinder gets a slating for not sounding good and not being offered in manual!

Why is that staggering?

An engine should either sound amazing or shut up and go away. A big V8 sounds amazing. A Tesla shuts up and goes away. A 4 pot just sounds meh. Perfectly rational viewpoint :p
