The Tesla Thread

Oh my god that interior is horrific.
I really like the Model S and Model X interiors with the big screen built in to the centre console but for the love of god why did they decide that a 12" iPad stuck on a Brodit mount was a good look for their new car? Quite frankly it looks **** and makes it look very cheap inside.

Really hoping that they change it dramatically before launch.

That range is pretty poor, and that is the range while new.

How many times do you travel over 200 miles in a day?
My place of work have just installed 10 additional car charging points (they had a few already) in the car park. It won't be long before they are popping up all over the place. Stop for a Costa and rapid charge your car up :)

While I suppose it's the direction that cars will end up going, I don't call £35,000 affordable in any meaning of the word. That is leagues away from being affordable to me!!

Is there a uk price yet?
It's $35k. Which is basically the average price of a new car in America ($31k I believe) and that's before incentives which depending on state is between $5-7.5k.
It's also just $6k more than Nissan Leaf with a 87mile range, $800 more than 107mile leaf. Although Nissan will probably inch that range up over next two years. But it's still a far better and more capable car than the leaf, Nissan will have to make huge changes if they want to try and match the 3.

Anyone find a video of the unveiling, I can't see it anywhere.

Electric cars still don't do it for me. Did a project at university looking at the whole picture with hydrogen/electric cars - only hydrogen was better for the environment when the hydrogen came from electrolysis, and the electricity from that came from renewable sources. For the current prices, it is still cheaper and more beneficial to use diesels. It was quite an interesting realisation

Then simply you did it wrong. There are many studies comparing the entire life cycle, all the way back to mining lithium/drilling for oil.
Even with current national grid makeup, electric is significantly better for the environment compared to petrol/diesel and as renewable get a larger and larger share, the gap grows.

My boss has a Tesla and it is amazing... 0-60 in around 5.5 secs and so quiet and smooth it is eerie. There are basically no manual control dials or readouts and everything is controlled by a HUGE capacitive touch-screen... **** knows what happens if this fails while you're on a trip.

My only concern, other than electrical failure, would be what happens if you are journeying in an area with no dedicated quick charging stations.

I can only dream of a future where solar technology improves to the point where cars fill up on the go. :p

Yeah, roadside solar panels, and wireless charging in the road? That'll be the way forward, and for major motorway networks would open up electric vehicles for the long hauls too. As well as reducing the need for better batteries, which is one of the major obstacles with current electric cars.

The people that hated on Mercedes and Audi for stuck on tablet screens are going to love this :p.
The exterior looks amazing !!

I aint seen any "real" interior shots, thus far. Care to link to somewhere? The ones I have seen do look more integrated. More like the model S.

I HATE the "stuck on ipad" look, but that's mostly because it doesn't look integrated. With that being said, the integrated pictures I have seen make the thing look far too big in all honesty.

I would genuinely buy one. I love the simplicity of the interior it's awesome. I also think using the car everyday the large screen would be a really nice feature.

the dash does look horrible. butt it's also so different ie. non existent compared to normal dash. sounds like they've dine that, to create mire leg space, front seats are actually further forward than in a normal car, which gives ample leg room in rear.

why have they gone with glass roof, surly that just adds cost. metal has to be significantly cheaper isn't it?

supercharger as standard, which is great and some were expecting it to be an add on.

only interior pic I can find

Not to mention the air quality and noise improvements near roads! Imagine how nice it will be some day soon to be stood near a congested main road and it be nearly as peaceful and easy to breathe as out in the countryside.

indeed and something I've been saying for a long time. think people underestimate even in uk cities how horrible the air quality is and how many deaths it causes.

My only concern with electric cars is where do the millions of us with no off street parking charge them up where I live even 500K doesn't guarantee you an off street space so how do we plug in at night?

eventually loads of on street chargers.

companies are already thinking about that.
like this, i'm well aware it's a render. although there are some already about.

Well, not peaceful in the sense of quiet... doesn't the noise mainly come from tyre roar? Or is that a myth?

Some yep, but try listening to e.g. a Prius rolling past on battery power compared to any ICE car, the difference is obvious.

You're right though at motorway speeds it's mostly tyre noise. 30 mph seems to be about the transition speed.

it's part of the standard car.

I'm surprised they went with glass for the roof.
A significant weight increase and if you've ever experienced a conservatory in winter & summer you'll know it'll require more heat and A/C to keep the temperature levels controlled. Which means more drain on the power cells.

unfortunately appears not. the tweet I got the picture from says that is what will be in the production model. it's also the same as in the unveil video at 13:30
