Insurance is expensive because even a small accident is essentially a total loss/write off. They’re very safe but that comes at a cost.

Our model 3 LR is more expensive to insure than any of my exotic cars!

Tesla are launching their own insurance deals. Next month according to Musk at the autopilot event on Monday (watched it all). I'll be comparing that to direct line and others..
Twitter is the best place to follow musk and Tesla for the news and updates.

.as he said their insurance rates will be based on your personalised telematics .. if you drive like saint or have a lead foot ... but if you let AP drive ?

Are we allowed to share referral links on here for when ordering goes live? Both parties get 1k free supercharger miles.

Went for a test drive in the S this morning at Heathrow. They had the Model 3 sat there. It is very weird getting back in my Golf - you realise how many hard buttons there are on the Golf! The Model 3 was a lot smaller sat in the drivers seat than I expected. Never had an estate either so will take some getting used to not having the height space in the boot.

The bloke said they had four Jag i Pace traded in during the last week due to owners disappointed with their range.

Best place for Tesla insurance I found was a specialist called novo insurance.

I was with direct line for the first year of my Model S then upon renewal prices went crazy. Nova were the only half reasonable coming in at £800 per me. However, at 26 it’s not that far off similar powered/class/priced cars.

thanks, ill take a look at nova when the time comes. Im 38 with 10+ NCD so model 3 should be a reasonable price to cover.

Watch this vid to the end as the interview with the insurance assessor and technician is very enlightening. Skip the first 15 mins if you're not interested in 4WD system testing.

Reversed a brand new Model 3 into a garage post and was quoted $6K to fix it. Could take months not weeks to fix.

I had an Elise and they were notorious for being written off for chassis and clam damage. I have an i3 and they are susceptible to carbon composite passenger cell write offs and I'm still considering the model 3 as my next EV purchase!

Interesting! I just did a quote, almost identical details to our current car (BMW 340i) and its double the price. If I recall correctly last year we paid around £450 and the Tesla Model 3 quote is £906.

I just did the same for a new BMW i3S and a Model 3 and yeah the Model 3 was twice the premium but has it launched I've not been following recently?

Orders for the M3 are supposedly going to go live 1/2 May, with deliveries starting in mid-June. No idea ow any insurer can give an accurate price on a car you can't even own yet. Model S P100D cost is £717, which is only slightly more that the Merc C-Coupe we have.

I love the white but paint chips are more obvious and would need more washing. Was thinking the red but can't justify the extra - will go for blue.

Blue will show even more, as the undercoat is white. Paint is super soft on these, so I’d recommend a paint protection film after delivery if you want to keep it looking nice.

Oh balls. I love the gray but the wheels are gray so... Maybe it's white then! Depends on cost really.

From an insurance perspective you have to remember that even the base Model 3 is a serious performance car. 0-60 in 5.5 seconds is very very quick and insurance premiums are likely to reflect that as well.
