The Tesla Thread

Peace of mind, for me. I wouldn't want to take the dog to the park and he jumps up putting his paw on the screen when I get out and he's excited.

Everyone is different and will have different use cases but for £25 it's a no-brainer.

Yeah I've got a matte one, popped it on on day one. Just prefer the matte look and it doesn't show fingerprints at all.

Do you find it slightly blurred the screen? The only ones I’ve seen are reviews of the Spigen and they mention the blur which has put me off the matte.

No not really, certainly not noticeable. Maybe if you'd used it without one for a while or were actively looking to compare the difference?

I ordered from Abstract Ocean as well as some other accessories after they were recommended by plenty over on TMC Forum. They're USA but some of the accessories you can't get anywhere else so made no difference to my shipping with the protector bundled in. And to be fair to them, I accidentally cracked the protector and they sent me another for free.

bought one, never fitted - been sitting in the drawer for 2 years!
 
It's been a great family car for me. But we don't have bulky buggys etc which I could see being a problem for the narrow boot entrance.

On the downside, the car has totally broken PC driving games for me. They all feel a bit slow now.

I use screen protectors on my devices, but not the car, no need at all.
 
I fitted a matt protector not long after I received my SR+ and it did reduce finger prints compared to the bare glossy screen. Also reduced the response every so slightly but after 2 years I've not given it a thought since.

I hadn't really tested how hard a toughened screen was before. Since then I tested a broken tablet screen by scrapping it with a flat head screw driver but actually had to stab it hard to make a mark.
 
You can't normally mark toughened glass with most metals as the glass will be higher on the Mohs scale, you mostly need to worry about anything mineral based like grit, rocks and sand as they'll easily scratch glass.

I'd think in a car where you're only using your fingers and keys and wallets wont be regularly scraping against and grinding in any other dirt it you should be ok. Unless you live by the beach (or a quarry) and use gloves a lot, then i could see sand being able to cause scratches if it's on your fingers.
 
Had my test drive this morning. FYI navigating Leeds is a nightmare to someone not local:cry:. Had a go in a model 3 performance. All I can say is that I was expecting it to be a bit quicker than my bmw m3, but Jesus, it's like a plane taking off:eek:. Looks very futuristic, but was not quite as sporty as my car (which I expected), but overall not bad. My Mrs wasn't keen as she won't be able to tell when I'm going to put my foot down:p.

No need for the Performance (imo) given the price difference. Someone else posted about the P v LR recently as there's very little in it, especially with the software performance upgrade on the LR.

Even my SR is more than rapid enough for all real-world scenarios like overtaking quickly/safely, entering on slip roads, and being excited to get stopped by a red light on a dual carriageway :D.
 
Talking of screen protectors im gonna go with the matt one. But has any one put one of those sunvisor thingys on with the little hood thing ?

Many have a little cubby on the back too.

What about phone mounts side of screen or brodit make one that looks pretty decent? I worry the built in phone place is too low to see the screen


And.. is there a way to turn of the screen/backlight? At night i really cant abide having glowing lights even a black lcd screen still glows. Is there any flaps to cover screen like a phone case?
 
I know that the whole point of a Tesla is to try to push the autopilot features but what about if you just want to drive normally - how does the map/navigation compare with something like Android Auto navigation? Do you get lane indicators and roundabout exit info and the like?

I would like to know as well. Something I've read but find difficult to believe is that you can't add waypoints..... that is basic stuff... I very often have to do multiple destinations in a route, hence wondering about phone mounts for nav
 
Map functions are very basic. No waypoints! On the plus side the screen is very responsive and large. And you do get lane hints etc, but it's just in a box in the top right. No overlay or anything like that.

It's good enough that I don't bother with a phone mount. But only just.

I suspect the mapping defers to some unseen FSD beta, and they don't want to add any functionality to complicate things.

It's okay if you don't mind the Google maps style overhead. If I'm doing anything tricky I'll do a quick search on waze first to double check the route is the same.

Why do you want to see your phone? Everything is on the cars screen apart from texts etc and you shouldn't really be looking at those whilst driving.

The screen either auto or manually switches to a black them when dark, as well as auto brightness, and I've never had any issues with it glowing etc. Certainly not worth looking to try and fix before it's an issue.

Map and navigation is good. No waypoints as far as I know and it isn't linked to your Google profile (yet) so things like favourites will need copying manually if you rely on them. Otherwise it's just Google Maps with a fascia so still great at avoiding traffic etc. And yes, the indicators are better than Android I would say, ie you also get the turning after the next turning for roundabouts or quick junctions etc as well as which lane to be on/where to head towards for motorways and the like.

Always a need for more power:p. Tbh It's the most annoyed I've ever been due to hitting Green lights:cry:. I was surprised by lack of road noise, i think it had pirellis on, but not sure if they were eco ones to reduce noise.

It sounds good will jave to wait and see but no waypoints sounds like a right pain. Google maps on phone does it. So if im going to location x but need to go via location y i can no longer know my eta at location x whilst on my way to location y seems like such a massive oversight[/quote]

Yeah the nav isn’t too bad tbh. You can share addresses from phone to the car though which is sometimes what I do before setting off - ie check google maps to see roughly how long, share address to car, turn on the climate then leave the house
