Yikes, that must have given you a bit of a fright! :eek:

Better the old car than the model 3 though:p

I had it happen to me once, a huge stone was flicked up by a tractor coming the opposite direction. It went straight into the windscreen basically where my face was and I was doing about 60 with just enough time to think ‘oh ****’.

Fortunately the laminate held but the screen was smashed.
 
It was definately a WTF was that moment :eek: and yes, much rather it was this than the new one.

Just sods law and undue hassle to get it sorted so quickly so as not to impact on the trade in / collection .....
 
Most cars it’s only the windscreen that is laminated, the rest are normal tempered glass. Easier to get in, but also easier to get out in an emergency.

That said ‘double glazed’ windows are becoming more common on higher end cars.

On the Model 3 front, no contract/invoice yet, hopefully it comes through today so I can collect on Monday morning.
 
It shattered with a small (5p piece) size hole where the impact was. It held its integrity for quite a while but slowly started to fall away.

To be fair it did its job. The picture above is after c50 miles of driving and opening / closing the door several times

I wouldn't care so much if it was a standard aero cover as those can be replaced but these are the Rimetrix Orbital covers and they were MINT when it went in.

Replacing it isn't easy because it take weeks for delivery and due to them not shipping direct to the UK, it's got to come through a shipping forwarder :rolleyes:

Tip: Remove expensive covers next time it goes in for service.
 
Surely you can follow this up with them? I'd be expecting to be compensated the invoice value if they were new/mint.

And, thankfully, I now have a full complement of glass again

They’ve agreed to pay for a replacement.

I’m buying a replacement and they’re refunding me the cost of the invoice :)
 
So I’m now all set for Monday. They call me earlier as I hadn’t yet paid. That was fine but they hadn’t actually sent me the invoice and payment details yet. :p

I think I’m going get some tip runs in with the old car over the weekend!

I'm going the other way, trying to use my car at little as possible :cry:. They rang me yesterday and as the car I'm buying needs 4 new tyres so they'll be fitting some today which is good, but I think they're T0 and I read something about electric car tyres having reduced tread?
 
Depends on the brand I think. You’ll want the EV versions anyway as the non-EV versions tend to wear out quickly as they aren’t designed for all the torque and extra weight. You can of course stick a different brand on.

Ha I'm doing the same (tip runs) today !

Just cleared the car out as well. Just need to get the paperwork and spare key found and ready for Tuesday :D

Interesting vid, however he mentions a lot about how they're designed for the extra weight. I know that etron is heavy, but a model 3 must be close in weight to something like a 5 series surely. In any case I'm not sure exactly what tyres will be on mine when I pick it up as I was reading Purcell are now on (I really hope I get Michelins), I've never had a good pirrelli tyre, they might be better on a track but not on a road. How much life would you expect out of the tyres, the car I'm getting has ~34k miles on so not sure if they're the originals.
 
I'm trying to work out if there's a feasible way to get into a Model 3 LR. Currently have an M135i, worth approx £30k. Have approx £15k finance outstanding on a very low interest rate loan costing £375 p/m. Current thinking is to sell the M135i, pay off the loan, put £4k-ish into a lease upfront payment, approx lease payments of £485 p/m over 4 years (10k miles). Spend £500 on a charger, £500 on car insurance. Pocket the leftovers from selling the M135i.

Or just keep my current car and shut up of course :) open to alternative suggestions/options.
 
£4k + £485 X 48 = £27,280 to rent a car for 4 years. Seems like an expensive way to rent a Tesla to me when the residuals are so high at the moment. The cheapest 2019 Model 3 LR on Autotrader is still £38k (private sale) and comes with 50k on the clock and two very ruined alloys. From a dealer, with sensible miles, the first cars to land in the UK are still selling for £45k.
