Yeah, as a user of older tech, I just wanna see 6800XT/6900XT ran against clock for clock, not 5000 series enabled... as we wanna see what the raw power is... so fro me, yeah test with and without, otheriwse the numbers are useless for people like myself. Can't wait for the reviews tbh

Tbh the whole thing could be fake. I still expect nvidia to have the upper hand in RT especially in games past. Games developed with AMD's RT cards might show stronger performance though. Guess we will see what's what for real soon enough in games already designed for RTX. After that we will have to wait and see in games that AMD have been involved with.

Technically it shouldn't make any difference if both AMD and Nvidia are using the DXR spec as specified by Microsoft.

For some reason I thought they were closer.(I know nothing is confirmed until cards get reviewed)That said they are still missing a sub £500 card to compete with the 3070 on price. They've sandwiched the 3080 with 6800 and 6800xt instead.

Yea they definitely need something a bit cheaper. they have released the same number of chips as NV atm just there lowest performing chip is still pretty fast so commands a higher price. A 6800 8gb could be done and priced lower to combat the 3070. No word on that happening though.

The "4GB" 480's at launch were 8GB with a bios glued on because they were too rushed to make a 4GB version.

Funny as it was it probably stuck in their mind not to do that again.

What's lol about it though? It's definitely not ideal as 8gb is a crap amount for the money but could fill a gap until the 6700xt comes along. You never know could be one of those cards like back in the day where you flash it and get the full amount.
It's lol as so many AMD boys in here have been laughing at the idea of 8gb. Now that AMD prices are out, you have the hype train driver not interested as they are too expensive and we have you suggesting they should have a 8gb version :p:D

When I suggested 8gb and 10gb were not ideal, but I would rather them be available, some were not having it and tried to make it sound like I am fighting the battle of 8 or 10gb being enough for a long time. Nope, I would like more vram too, but not if it means price will go up.

By the way, I agree with you. Giving people the option of a 8gb version would be good if it means they can hit lower price points. Let people choose. Some will be happy to have access to that level of grunt if it means it will run 99% of their games maxed out and a handful on one lower texture setting for example.

Sorry guys, too many pages. One quick question:

Those that bought 3900x/3950x + X570 are left in the dark with SAM?
SAM is a feature excusive to Zen3 but not worth upgrading a Zen2 CPU to a Zen3 CPU for.

Yes, you should upgrade to the 5900x/5950x or some other Zen 3 cpu to get SAM

He definitely shouldn't upgrade to a 5900x or especially 5950x just for SAM.

SAM and RAGE are benefits to upgrading to 5000x CPUs with 6000 Series GPUs

However, the seperate benefits of upgrading to 5000 and 6000 are great (imo) and then from there by doing both, you get SAM + RAGE benefits.

Thats how I see it anyway.

maybe I worded it wrong, I wasn't trying to advocating for upgrading - just indicating that if you want SAM you need Zen 3

Wondering if reviewers will be investing heavily in the cpu + gpu testing for the 5000 release knowing there's a potentially better benchmarking gpu they'll be allowed to show a fortnight later.

I'm sure some will slack off one way or another knowing it means redoing all the cpu gaming tests with the "best" gpu.

The separate benefit of upgrading a 3900x to a 5900x is not so material and can be considered for the most part a "want not need" upgrade that in the end will likely cost an extra £259-300 after selling the 3900x. I would rather spend my money on a GPU instead, as a 3900x will still scream when paired with a 6800.

Don't get too excited. But here's someone who claims it could work. So you can play the waiting game. Meanwhile AMD would be discussing the technicalities in greater detail over coming weeks, so you can glean something out of it.

Apparently (just learned this with some curious Googling) SAM is a generic feature of Linux since years and more recently Windows, that AMD can theoretically enable on any Zen2 CPU... https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/jk76u9/smart_access_memory_already_works_on_linux_and_is/

Many of these features that AMD and Nvidia are marketing seem to be versions of existing technology wrapped in new marketing speak.

dont be crazy if anything performance will be close, nowhere near enough to warrant waiting to do cpu reviews
