3070 with 8GB is not a smart buy IMO. The 6800 with double the memory is a much better idea if it ends up performing as expected.

Any pictures of the aib cards yet?

asus strix looks exactly the same as 3080/3090 strix and it has a higher power limit than the AMD 6800xt, if I recall correctly the asus card is like +25% power limit over the AMD TDP

edit: so up to 375w for the asus strix 6800xt

asus also has a water cooled strix 6800xt coming, two versions - one is attached to a 240mm AIO and the other a customer EK block

Ummm the 5700xt was never geared/marketed as a 4k card?

It was very clearly said to be a 1440p card...

That wasn't quite what I was getting at, I want to know why AMD GPU's basically die when the game tries to use more memory than the card has in VRAM cache? Nvidia's cards also lose performance but only a bit while pushing extra memory into RAM, the 5700xt still pushes data into RAM but he card loses like 70% of its performance.

The RX 6800 looks like a powerful GPU, but I think many were expecting a lower price.

The RTX 3070 seems to offer the highest frames per £ of the Ampere / RDNA 2 GPUs. The RX 6800 will probably cost £80 - £100 more.

There is speculation of a 6700 XT, but apart from that, do we have any reason to believe this GPU exists or is planned by AMD?

Poor drivers (communication with system hardware) I'd guess? Maybe that's why AMD prefers to use lots of VRAM for RDNA 2?

I guess we might not see a 6700 XT, because AMD already has RDNA gen 1 GPUs that can handle games upto 1440p.

Is it worth adding ray tracing to a 5700 XT refresh, if it would most likely already struggle at 4k resolution?

This slide suggests Ray tracing is for Navi 2x GPUs only, which are described as 'Top-of-stack' with 'Enthusiast-class performance'. Doubt this would include a refresh of the 5700 XT, with a similar number of Compute Units to the last gen.

4K at only 1800Mhz for a 5700xt with is really low frequency.

1440p results. And it beats a 2070s.

I'm not sure what the problem is suppose to be.

no idea, maybe that site had an issue with their card - their 5700xt ran great at 1080p and 1440p and then dropped down to Gtx1070 performance at 4k and for the system ram - when the 5700xt was at 4k they recorded 2gb of extra system ram being used by the game compared to a 2080 (at 4k 5700xt was 8gb vram used and 6.5gb system ram used and 4K 2080 was 8gb vram used and 4.5gb system ram used)

So in an interview today about ray tracing, Nvidia disputed any notion that they are forcing CDPR to use RTX extension for ray tracing to lock AMd out of Cyberpunk 2077

people were concerned because the developer said ray tracing will not work at launch on amd cards.

min that interview Nvidia refuted they caused this, they said Cybperunk uses the normal DXR extension not RTX so any gpu that supports DXR can use the games ray tracing - other games that use DXR are shadow of the tomb Raider and control and others. If Cyberpunk doesn't let big Navi do ray tracing that's simply because the developer or AMD itself is blocking it for some reason otherwise ray tracing should work on day one for big navi

I'm sure in some bizzaro alternate universe were we ignore them saying that 10gb vram is enough. And, ignore they turned around and are about to eol the 3080 with one with more vram. They might be believed as telling the truth.

However, that's not the situation is it? Therefore, I ignore such statements. I will not take it as probable do to the game not being released yet. I won't give them the benefit of a doubt. I won't add a pinch of salt to that story.

:D

Ray tracing will probably be not optimized for amd at launch, both pc and consoles. Also with the amount of ray tracing going on the performance will be probably undesirable without super sampling. Thing nvidia is marketing, rtx+dlss, available for wd legion as well, despite that game being a total mess when it's coming to optimization, as usual for Ubisoft

Back on topic, I wish amd reviews wouldn't come on launch day, I'd really like to see this reference cooler how it's working before the launch day, even 1 day before. If it's quite and maxes out 75° I'd be down go for reference, I'm not OC fan, so it's pointless to me the extra room for OC

Any news from Gibbo about how this launch will go down? the last nvidia launches have been a complete meltdown for me on OC and I dont want to get c-blocked by the weak website again

I probably have missed that part since my targeted cards were top 3080 and 6800xt. Let's hope they won't go extinct in 2 minutes, and have a full 5 minutes to buy
Hope so...and good luck.

For myself, just to be sure to avoid my RTX 3080 and R9 5900x debacle, I managed to reserve 6800XT already within the local distributor (getting mine as soon as they get available before it goes to listing and have liberty to chose model), managed to get Ryzen 5950x from same.
Scalpers can try, but they are not getting mine.

I can finally rest after all stress trying to get Ampere and Zen3.

Ryzen 5950x, Gigabyte G34WQC, and RX 6800xt (probably getting Strix depending on price and availability compared to other AIB) will be nice advance gifts for Christmas.
