Is it likely to be the same time of day as the CPUs for the 6800XT release? 2pm on the 18th? Has a time of day been announced yet? (pre-preparing with some calendar notifications lol)

Whatevers announced just subtract 3 hours from it i.e. if OCuk announce 3pm be sure to tune in at 12 (no I'm not in the slightest bit bitter that the official annoucement had completely the wrong time that they didn't bother to correct and I didn't get a chance to grab anything :p)

Im having second thoughts about buying one now. £650 is a lot for one component. My last GPU was £220. 4 weeks between launch and availability gives me time to reconsider things.

I was planning on getting one but think I will wait well in to next year to see what happens with the market. Like you say, it’s a *lot* of money to spend.

I can completely relate to this.

The most expensive single component I've ever bought was a 5700XT *b grade* for £299.99.

The notion of spending more than £500 on a GPU doesn't sit right with me.

In fairness to Nvidia and AMD, they still don't price people out of the hobby of pc gaming. It's still possible to buy less expensive cards from them, it just won't be the latest and greatest.

I was all set to get a 5800X and a 6800XT for my next build but over the past week i've been giving it some thought. I've never paid anywhere near a grand for a CPU/GPU combo. In fact I try to keep said combo down to around half that or £600 at the most. So paying that for just a graphics card isn't sitting right with me.

I'm actually starting to think i'll just pick up a used 3700X for £200 and keep my 5700XT for a bit.

True but 4 years on from my last purchase, I can barely get any more performance for my money if I wanted to spend a similar amount to last time.

That's fair.

I agree that there seems to be a stagnation in terms of price per fps. Though I've only been back in the loop for the last 12 months.

What are you running out of curiosity?

Anyone could see why you'd want that combo.

I'm just not sure how I could personally justify it to myself.

It all comes down to how you personally quantify what is good value. Or even if you care about 'good value'.

I do, that's why I'll have a hard time pulling the trigger, even though I want to.

1700x with RX480.

I could do with a good GPU for VR. Even the 2nd hand options are poor. People still paying/wanting high prices for last gen when far faster ones are soon available.

In my mind its £650 for 3080 perf, so a 2080 ti (bested by a £470 3070) should now be no more than £400 and then 5700xt and 2070 supers should be no more than about £200.

But when a 2080 ti is still selling for £550, its a no brainer to pay the extra ton and get the far faster 3080 or soon to come 6800xt.

Didn't see it as i have 48k on ignore for my sanity :p
Ditto, he is completely and genuinely nuts and I have no idea how people can do otherwise. The ignore list is the only reason browsing the GPU and CPU sections are tolerable and everyone should be using it for people they dont want to engage with for any reason. You can always choose to view ignored posts any time you think it may actually be useful anyway. :)

Yep, they relentlessly mocked him and cast aspersions on the source due to English being a 2nd language.
However, he was quite specific in terms of reasons why and I'm not sure his reasons were sound!
Will see how much goodwill amd lose if and when they can't satisfy demand. Awaiting accusations of paper launch..

That was me.

I posted details from Asus Rep saying there were going to be supply issues and one (not all) of the issues which contribute to that was substrate supply.

Interesting recently Coreteks have reported that AMD have had to reallocate substrate supply because of the shortage. (Yes, I know coreteks isn't the definitive source buts the same news has come from multiple different places now)

We will have to see exactly how it affects the GPU launch but judging by the CPU (which they'd of undoubtedly allocated more to due to margin) i can't see it being great.
