I enjoyed his AMD Bike ribbing, i mean that thing was a pile of junk, what were they thinking? AMD removed it shortly after he made that video, good...
Electric bikes, was what they were thinking (probably). Slap your brand on a bike and you can claim the trademark for your brand, for use on those fields of products. The company i use to work at did the exact same thing. Admittedly it made more sense for them to do it than AMD.

Yea fair enough, but AMD clearly don't understand MTB's :)

Ampere may be expensive but it would have cost a lot more for a lot less without the big Navi cards to deal with.
Agreed.

AMD did very well, I also do not understand why people are trying to put them down. They should be applauded for finally catching back up after all these years. Now hopefully they can stay there or dare I say even beat Nvidia with RDNA 3.

AMD did OK. They made some very good cards (that I can't buy) to compete with, and push down the prices of, nVidia cards that I also can't buy.

I'm not fussed about RTX. I can't buy an RTX card even if I was.

Meanwhile in console land.. two powerful new consoles launched that, you guessed it, I can't buy. It's been a good year for tech.

Hmm, Asus is claiming just over 13% uplift using Z490 chipset with SAM with a 10700k and 6800xt with Horizon 4.
But it doesn't state what resolution that is. However, they are claiming around 190 without and 220FPS with SAM. Hmm, that sounds like 1080p but I'm not sure. If I'm not mistaken that would beat a 3090.

Yep, AMD have done well. Limited budget and a decent powerful power efficient card is very welcomed. Regardless of crazy prices, competition is healthy and good for the consumer.

This is at 1440p so it would have to be 1080p.

Going by that reviews other numbers yes it does beat a 3090 if you enable SAM on Forza 4, on 1080 and 1440 and no numbers for 4k SAM but adding 13% would put it 8fps below 3090.

As long as it actually is competition. Unfortunately, both companies are matched for price, so not very competitive at the moment.

How much do you think the 3080 would be if AMD didn't have a competitive card? How much was the 2080ti last year when AMD weren't competitive?

That does look like a good card, too rich for my blood tho..

I'm quite impressed with the XFX one that JayZ2Cents reviewed, i'd be happy to have that but i'm sure there will be plenty others before they are actually in stock at MSRP. :)

PS its likely to be a 6800 None XT.
I think i can speak for everyone on these forums when I say it would be nice to see Humbug back on a AMD GPU, preferably a 6800 or higher.

It doesn't sit right with most folk to see him using a 2070 Super.

Just check out LtMatts graphics score on Firestrike Standard for example using an average 6800XT, I don't think a 3090 will be able to get even close. Yes I know Firestrike is a benchmark and not a game but it is still a good measure of performance.

It's a good measure of previous tech when we are slowly transitioning to next gen RT. I feel there would be a choice if Ampere was bad overall at rasterisation, but it's not. So why buy a next gen card when it's not so good at next gen?

I'm not 100% confident that 13% uplift would translate from 1080p to 4K though. It's not clear why Asus didn't clarify what resolution those numbers represent. Even if it means that at 4K there was hardly any performance uplift. However, I am curious to know if PCIe3.0 is impacting performance or not. Unfortunately, there is no way to compare/contrast those difference right now.

The 3080 was slightly cheaper than the 2080 so in terms of price there wasn't much difference but what we got was a better performance uplift this time.

The 3080ti will probably come in at the same price as the 2080ti as it will be a competitor to the 6900XT which AMD have already set the pricing at 1k then there is the 3090 which is a slightly higher speced 80ti and that comes in at £1500 so nvidia haven't really decreased pricing this gen but rather given the 3080 more performance so the gap to the ti will only be 10% rather than 30% as it was for Turing.

Do you mean they are too expensive? I agree price for performance needs to improve at the mid to lower end. Lets see what they bring out soon.

You should just do what I do, buy what you want, take a small hit and sell it before the next gen comes out. Unless we get a 7nm refresh of Ampere with much better prices, I recon I will only lose about £100 or less on my 3080 FE and will have kept it for 18-24 months. That ain't too bad for being near cutting edge tech. Basically if you put away £10 a month towards a GPU upgrades pot, you could do this with ease.

Just look at members market, someone managed to sell a 2080S for £400! Could not believe my eyes as one can buy a 3070 with a bit of patience for like £70 more and it would be brand new! Not to mention we have a 3060Ti coming for £400 or less soon.

Cancel him until he does go back to Amd.:p
P.S can the mods only allow him to post in the Nvidia threads.:D

Impossible to answer. What we do know is the price of both cards at the moment, and they're level pegging.

The 3080 is a GA102 die. The 2080, 1080 and 980 were all 104 dies. It would be safe to assume that Nvidia didn't want to give you a 104 die as an x80 class card. Therefore we can make a rough estimate as to where it would have been priced.
