The thread which sometimes talks about RDNA2

Gamersnexus is saying review copies have DRM which reduces performance:
https://twitter.com/GamersNexus/status/1336066826233651202
They said to wait for the launch, when the DRM is switched off to get a better view of performance.

Its unlikely that drm is draining 50% performance which is what people would expect - double the numbers we're seeing right now, so I have doubts that disabled drm is gonna make 4k ultra ray tracing go from 20fps to 60fps

It makes sense if they want to prevent the leaks to the public, give them bad FPS.
But if the game has poor AI or there are bugs everywhere as we can read on some reviews, that won't be fixed on release.

Being a buggy POS with low fps doesn't stop single player games from doing well.

All you need is to release cheat codes and mod support so the community can fix it themselves :p

It is a tiny minority on both sides of the argument, the majority of people who buy games do not spend time on forums, they just want them to run and don't give a hoot about what tech has been used to do the visuals.

As to locking in tech this has failed badly with RTX and NVidia, AMD have definitely decided the tech has a future hence their latest 6 series cards have started to use it.

If a tech is really worthwhile to a manufacturer they will find a way to implement it even if their rivals try and lock it in to their systems.

Both NVidia and AMD think Ray Tracing is worth doing (they are the ones with the market research numbers), this is something I can't argue with.

For the record I am not a fan of RT but I do know plenty of people on these forums are.
There is no both sides. There is those, like you, vocal about the importance of RT. And the rest who are more interested in the game.

LOL

Nope RT sucks in all games. And I find absolutely no use for it as it offers nothing tangible while gaming. Even Steve from HU said as much. You simply have just an "opinion". I on the other hand am just as entitled to my opinion in which I'm not alone in either.
:D
What Ray Tracing does for a persons gaming experience only they can say, for some it will be fantastic for others it is of little use.

Each person must make their own mind up about RT as no two people see things the same way.
^^
Remember this is your introduction into the conversation that triggered a response from you. Therefore, I don't believe you are neutral about RT but part of that vocal minority who sees value in it.
It's very clear my opinion about RT induced a response from you. Sugar coated as it maybe it still shows how you think/feel about RT.

As for both Nvidia/AMD supporting it I don't believe the worth for it as you imply. AMD also supported tessellation in the drivers which forced reduce it potency in games that heavily used it. Something that we enjoy to this very day. But it wasn't because they love tessellation for example. If anything, it was simply an opportunity to leverage control of developer relations in how future gaming engines are implemented that is not/not as costly. It doesn't mean you will see a visual difference in game. Something I said before. As they do have a say in the console market. A market that is known to port those games to PC, IMO. :)

To further add, you don't have to be a fan of something to like something. However, when you exert the energy to advocate, in this case RT, it's quite clear, at least to me, you are part of that group. Remember, I am also part of "each person" to which you replied to who has made up my own mind. Who simply expressed my opinion about RT.
:D

You could not be more wrong.

I have never played even one second of a game with Ray Tracing turned on, I am most definitely not a fan of RT.

The only times I have seen Ray Tracing running is in benchmark runs and demos, these I find disappointing.

Having said all that the above is just my opinion and I should remain open minded to other peoples views and experiences.

I have got to go as I have some non RT gaming to do.

Gona be fun using your own words against you soon when a game eventually comes out that needs more than 10gb. I will be using yeah but it is just one game and perf hit is not worth the quality improvement (regarding textures) :D
When have you ever seen textures cause a big performance hit on a GPU with adequate video memory? I’ll wait. ;)
I hear game engine turn the settings down for you when you run out of VRAM, you won't even get a chance to see the quality improvements;):p

FPS at time of screenshot hidden ;)
Lighting direction is totally screwed.
It's badly cropped

You don't notice the complete lack of detail under the characters head and around the lower right edge of the screen due to the limitations of SSR?

Haha. The question is when have you seen there to be a huge difference between the two highest texture settings? Take doom eternal as an example. So yea, when that game eventually comes out that needs more than 10gb I will just say perf hit is not worth the quality improvement ;)

Havn't played one single game that has RT since I bought my 2070 in 2018. Cyberpunk may be the first game, however I wont be buying that game for six months at least, until the game is fit for purpose (if ever) and Amd get there act together with RT and a DLSS equivalent to Nvidia, in the meantime I will manage just fine with the 6800 incoming on the many other RT'less games out there. RT Pfff......

@EastCoastHandle What is wrong with this image?

There is no context to this image. Assuming you mean the reflection in the water to the lighting of the character? It looks skew, however we have no idea if another light source is behind the character. With that it also seems the reflections in the water always point towards the camera as the treeline draws into your viewpoint rather than being offset to match the building for instance. Further to that if the lightsource which I assume is the sun was behind the building you would have a much more silhouette view of the buildings along that bankside in the background. So yeah loads wrong if you want to pick it apart. Is this with RT on? I have no context to it off. Normally you would see this sort of thing with RT off because they would be using point lighting to create the water reflection/shadows and that is why you always end up with the direction you see in the picture. I am not for RT at all at moment in the gaming area but I haven't seen RT produce such oddities when watching a video of other implementations where the directional light is from a source such as the sun where shadows direction are generally correct.

What's wrong with this picture?
:p

This also has the same issue where the light source of the sun seems to be directing light in two directions, however again is there a spot light out of view to the left to highlight the car or is it just wrong, is there a giant mirror/glass panel that is bouncing light? Certain things look good in the picture, the shadow under the car where it is darker directly under and then lighter around the exterior of car is much better and more natural, the tree shading is good and showing the silhouette of them well. It is just the side of the car that is an oddity.
