At least a lot of people agree that RT is not worth the performance hit.

Higher quality textures make a significant improvement to image quality with almost no hit to performance, assuming you’re using a GPU with sufficient VRAM to store the textures.

You’ll be waiting a long time to make your point. By the time you can make it I’ll probably be dead, meanwhile my point is relevant here and now. :D

Hey I am one of them. So far what I have seen in person with RT is been ok at best. The only stuff that looks very good is stuff in development and not out yet or in benchmarks and tech demos.

Regarding textures, you are not understanding what I am saying it seems. I am saying there is a small difference between the two highest quality textures. I am not comparing Low and Ultra here. But Very High and Ultra. The difference between the two is not significant at all. One needs screenshots to see the difference in most cases.

I made my point just fine, you obviously do not want to see it ;)

Now you have given me ammo though, so when the time comes I can use it :D:D:D

RT gets automatically disabled though, perf hit not worth the quality improvement. :)
Gona be fun using your own words against you soon when a game eventually comes out that needs more than 10gb. I will be using yeah but it is just one game and perf hit is not worth the quality improvement (regarding textures) :D
When have you ever seen textures cause a big performance hit on a GPU with adequate video memory? I’ll wait. ;)
:D

You didn't say that at the start though looking back at your quotes (above).

Well, you do have a 10GB GPU so maybe you will encounter issues due to lack of VRAM, so i accept the point there.

Sure, there may not be a huge difference between Very High and Ultra textures in some games. That has nothing to do with my original point though. I've quoted all the posts as a reminder what my original point was. RT is not worth the perf hit, imo. As there is no perf hit using higher textures, other than maybe 1-2 FPS.

Not even Texture packs come with a perf hit other than perhaps needing more video memory. And Texture packs absolutely do make a difference, see Far Cry 5, Shadow Of Mordor as notable examples.

I almost hope that 10GB is enough now, just so you can't come back and throw this in my face, Lol. :p

It looks like the characters head has been Ray Traced as a reflection in the water starting at the chin and coming towards the bottom of the picture.

It's just normal SSR. It roughly matches the characters head due to the characters head blocking the information that SSR would have used for the reflection.

Haha. It’s all a bit of good banter anyway mate. I may even end up being on a 7800XT or something when eventually I do make use of my ammo ;)

I agree texture packs make a difference. My point does not refute that. You can still use a texture pack and use Very High instead of Ultra if needed and the difference between the two is small and in many cases one needs screenshots to see the difference.

As for what I said above, it is exactly what I am trying to say and it does have absolutely everything to do with the point. All I did was clarify my point.

Hi there

Launch is at 2PM today, you won't be able to buy anything from OcUK at 2PM, you will just be able to browse MBA design product.

We will make product available to order when we see fit, most likely later this week or next week and as usual I shall give a heads up on the OcUK forum in the GPU section a couple of minute before going live, we have around 100 and we expect them to sell out within around 30s even with doing an under the radar style launch.

We will not be taking back orders, if we do over sell when we make them available, the over sold orders will be cancelled and refunded, this is not because any more are coming but simply because we are unwilling to take back orders any more.

6900 XT launch ^^^

I also see that 6900XT AIB custom boards are breaking cover.

The textures are low res?

On a more serious note, where did you get this image from?
That is from fortnite using ray tracing. The game takes a massive performance hit with rt on.

Cliffs:
3080 at 4k max settings with rt 13fps
With dlss adds about 20 fps.
In order to use rt the best IQ settings are low with rt on and dlss.

This is something that I have been stating before. When it comes to ray tracing I wanted to see what the performance would be like when you dealing with open world games. In this game it is a massive performance hit.

The only way that could be fixed is to tone down the effects of rt or completely redo the engine and tone it down imo. A new engine is coming for this game. We will see then how things fair. But the only noticeable assets with rt are reflections. All other assets in the game show either mooted or no differences at all that are specific to rt. Other then the massive performance hit.

Which makes its use irrelevant for the foreseeable future. If it takes you standing in front of glass, looking at the fps and feeling in game stutter to know that it is on...something is wrong with how pressed some are going on about it.
:D

I would not buy either 6000 nor a 3000 series card just for rt. As neither are competent for rt.

Basically if you care about 4k and want to use RT with DLSS, then you go with Nvidia as with these features enabled they understandably destroy the AMD cards. If you want the best 1080p and 1440p and don't use RT then go AMD.

The 6900xt seems in no way worth it over a 6800xt.

Also, if you do any productivity work, Nvidia is the better choice.

I managed to get a 6900XT order in but I'll swap that out for a 3080TI next year.

@EastCoastHandle What is wrong with this image?

The reflections are good, not overdone, it looks realistic, but why is there a reflections blind spot behind her?
