The time came

How much is fitting going to cost? Please say if you're doing it yourself you've got the locking tools as well.

I have all of the required locking tools.

Sigh, I thought this thread was too good to be true. Sporting PE2's 'ALL ROUND' when oh actually it has a budget tyre. Why say it had them all round!

I explained this above, besides, the point was that the owner cared enough to pay the premium of keeping it on original tyres.

Why is a warranty company covering routine servicing? Not sure I understand on that one?

It isn't routine servicing?

I see. We all thought your point was exactly what you said - Exaltos 'all round'.

It isn't routine servicing?

Not sure I understand then - what has happened and why are you paying towards if it you purchased the car from a dealer literally 2 days ago?

Dephaser pulley needs doing, I am in fact just leaving to go and price up the pulley and aux/cambelt bits from Renault, then a claim will go off to the warranty company :) (Although I've budgeted on paying for the bits myself as I had no idea they'd include the warranty).

Get the parts from Northwest performance or take it to a specialist like JMS, K-tec or Rentech depending on where you are. Edit: or do it yourself as you mention, lol

I took my 182 in for a free health check in the summer at the stealers. Cam/Aux belt needed doing apparently. Despite the fact it had been done 2,000 miles ago by JMS which was in the service book...

You have to thrash the Clio to have fun.
Brake upgrade and more balls is a cheaper option ;)

I was averaging around 40 on the run back (according to the trip computer).

Now averaging 28, and that includes a lot of thrashing!

Highest I've averaged on the motorway was 42.7mpg with cruise on (must have had the wind with me :D)

Changing around 2krpm when driving through town or residential areas seems to help with economy massively I've found, as opposed to 2.5/3. Remap helps with the torque lower down as it'll probably have a fit and **** it's insides out revving that low on the standard map.

The car was cheap because the de-phaser pulley needs doing (this was mentioned a page or two ago). I suspect the dealer was not aware of how trivial the job was and deemed the problem to be far worse.

It is far less hassle to have the warranty company pay out for the de-phaser pulley.

' & " are as good as one another, we all know what it means in this context.

Why am I not surprised that you're a failure for a meet.

I've not moaned at all?

I merely asked if you'd be coming to the meet now, as you said you would if you had a car...but you're not, which doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

Your name was in the meet thread before you got the 182. We need you there to keep the Clio numbers high enough should the BMW boys kick off!

I'm still not sure I understand this warranty thing. The warranty will not cover pre-existing faults, of which the de-phaser pully surely is if the car itself was priced to take into account the fault with it? Furthermore, are they not simply going to argue it isnt a covered part - 'warranties' on this sort of car from this sort of dealer have a list of covered parts and thats that. Unless 'de-phaser pully' is specifically listed I'd prepare some lubricant for the claim rejection.

Like I've already said, I budgeted on covering the entire cost when weighing up the car in the first place, it's only £140 and takes no extra time when doing the cambelt properly anyway.

That said, the warranty explicitly includes camshaft pulleys, which this is and will be listed on the invoice as such, whether they'll use the fact that it isn't your bog standard cam pulley or not, I do not know.

What the hell is a dephaser pulley?

Cam pulley for the variable valve timing.

I think you are, as per usual, being woefully optimistic. I suspect the 'entire cost' is rather more than you think.

Not that we'll ever know, because if the bill does come in high you will simply lie to save face :p

Technically the dephaser pulley is not classed as a servicing part, its just highly recommended by any specialist to change it while the cambelt is being done. Fair play if they cover this under warranty, did you get any of this in writing from the dealer?

I doubt they will replace the pulley, cambelt, aux belt and all tensioners under warranty. They will replace the dephaser pulley and you'll be lucky if you even get a new cambelt!

To be honest, I wouldn't even let them near it, i'd rather pay for a specialist to do it so I know it's been done properly. It's really not a job any garage/dealer can do.

So it has expensive tyres all around... Except for one*... And the other three nearly need replacing...

* which is on the back, are you trying to end up in a hedge?

So does this need the belts done as well as the pully?

Yes, belts are due in the next few thousand miles.

There isn't really much scope in getting the price wrong. I found £380 inc. VAT for Gates/SKF Cambelt kit, Genuine Auxbelt kit and Genuine de-phaser pulley. Someone has since posted a link here to a cambelt a bit cheaper, and there is scope to get the auxbelt kit cheaper by using a pattern part.

Let who near it? The warranty company only pays, they have nothing to do with the job it's self.
