The "Top Gear", Season 24/25/26 thread

First time I've watched Top Gear since the abysmal first Chris Evans episode, have to say, it was quite good

Matt seems so forced in the studio bits but in the film segments he's really good. I don't normally like Chris Harris but he's really good in it too. I had to skip everything in the studio though as it was all dross and cringe worthy

Thought it was a thoroughly enjoyable episode.

Mat and Chris seem to get on OK.
Star was good and helped knowing Mat from other work. Thought it was amusing she told Harris off for being rude. He does have a whiff of arrogance/small man syndrome. Scripted or not, was good to see him put in his place.
Articles were good. Thought the farm equipment thing was a bit weak. Golf article OK but then the cars being passed were hardly being pushed to the same degree. The big fat Merc was horrible.

Have to say, this series of TG is better than TGT (which I have equal time for and glad we have two decent car shows to watch)

Watched all the new top gear so far and have to say I enjoy far more that TGT, Rory is a little annoying and Chris can come across a little immature sometimes but the content has been great.

I completely agree, much better due to the script not aimed at the American humour and of course it is all scripted. Liked the new Aston but what a terrible flat dash the Merc has, do not like their virtual dials at all.

That is pretty dire. Its like the design department looked at why they were selling so many C-Class Merc's, decided it was because of the stuck on ipad screen and thought. "I know, lets throw in two screens. Sehr gut!"

Even though this last episode has been the weakest of the three from my point of view it is so much better than the Beebs last attempt. The dynamic isn't quite there because they are too afraid to move too far from the Clarkson, May and Hammond characters. What they had last time was a mess, what they have now is a toned down Clarkson and two Hammonds.

it's not really a proper car review show because after seeing that Golf, you still have to go online to find out what it's ``REALLY`` like.
but the Fiat 124 review was good, because he was saying ``this isn't an Italian car and thus; not as much fun as it once was``

mind you, if it was like the last Fiat 124, it would probably break down all the time and rust away in two years !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was at Blyton park all yesterday so was up all day. Super tired when I got home. Even too tired to cook so just got some takeaway for me and the family. Sat down for Robot wars and fell asleep half way through the top gear episode which has never happened before! Problem is top gear worked because they were friends and of similar culture. The cultural gap between Matt and Rory is just absolutely massive that they will never have the chemistry that the other 3 did. Even though I thought TGT wasn't as good as old TG I still preferred it over this. There were moments when Chris says things in the studio that you would expect a laugh from but the audience were in silence. It is so cringe worthy.

Another enjoyable episode. The studio bits are still a bit flat, but overall a lot of fun. It was quite obvious that it was the driver, not the car, at Nurburgring (assuming it wasn't outright faked). Tamsin Greig is brilliant, but seemed a bit fish out of water with them. Her schooling Harris amused me but I seem to be one of the few who find his "rude instructor" shtick funny.

the culture gap is massive between the two ? ............no it's more like Matt is cool and laid back, but Roy is sarcastic and spiteful, it's a clash in any culture !
it should have been Matt and Brian Johnson, a car nut with a great sense of humour............the BBC cant get it right, they cant get anything right !!!!!!!!

I was enjoying it until the silly golf segment. Oh and also the silly shredder scene. Good having this on record, lots of filler to skip.

agreed. Top gear did their usual exaggerate to make a point trick again. All of the overtakes were scripted, they had static cameras lined up for the overtakes, the cars definitely didn't put up a fight and just moved over.

I get its not real, they're making a point that it's a quick car. But what point where they trying to make ? that the Golf Clubsport is quicker than a cayman GT4 ? quicker than a porsche turbo ? of course not given equal drivers. So really what we're saying is that a professional racing drivers with hundreds of thousands of hours experience on the ring are quicker than joe public on tourist fahren days ? well they've used a transit van to prove that point before. Did we really need to cover this again ?

The nurburgring part of the review had no point, and it felt lame. They could have quite easily strapped some go pros to one and not scripted it and just sent it out on tourist fahren days to prove a point its fast and maybe only overtake a few cars a bit more expensive without it being sensational. Would have been a much better feature.

It's got nothing to do with personalities. Twelve months ago Rory was on average UK salary. 17 years ago Matt was on 10 mill an episode. I am sure 90% of the people on here wouldn't know where to begin conversion wise with someone who has been living that life style for the past twenty years you will have absolutely nothing in common.

They do come across as two blokes-from-down-the-pub and a global star, don't they?
