The "Top Gear", Season 24/25/26 thread

Saying that I don't think the lass was a great guest to have on.

No. It was painful.

Aston and AMG bit - Very good
Fiat 124 bit - pretty good
Everything else I could have quite happily missed.

Rory and Sabine together on screen screaming away was nearly enough to make me switch over :p

Agreed. Glad I watch in on iplayer so I can skip bits.

I enjoyed it, and honestly thought it was as good as most of the Clarkson era TG (not seen TGT so can't comment on that).

Clearly still some room for improvement, but think the three of them are beginning to gel and can see a difference even across the first 3 episodes. Yes things like the Golf were scripted/badly edited - but most TG segments have been (just the overtakes were particularly bad due to the out of sequence editing)

Agreed. Harris was clearly toned down a bit as well, he was much less insufferable this time. Next week's Chiron and Ducati Superleggera segments sound awesome.

I thought it was a really good episode. I'm enjoying this series a lot so far. Dare I say it.. more so than a lot of The Grand Tour!

The revamped 'guest' segment is much better - it's much more enjoyable seeing them integrated more into the discussions than just 5 minutes of them banging on about whatever their latest project is, and then their lap. I also find Chris teaching them to drive most amusing.

They're beginning to gel together as a trio much better as the episodes go on.

Agreed, it's an entertainment show at the end of the day and it's serving it's purpose well for most of the audience. I'm enjoying it more than TGT I think!

Not really understanding the hate for this.

The last series was dire but this series seems really good? Not finding much to criticise and don't understand why everyone is so anti Harris.

It's an enjoyable car show now.

I'm definitely enjoying this series as general entertainment to have on as some easy watching with some great camera work and fast things, looking forward to seeing how they do the Ducati piece next week.

Not watched Sunday's episode yet, but caught up with the other 2 over the weekend and have to say I'm impressed. Whilst some bits were a bit cringworthy it was nowhere near as bad as The Grand Tour often was with the faked audience fights, and squeezing people into car bumpers and other junk.
Personally I quite enjoyed the silly bits like that power wash taking the paint off the car, likewise the teaser of the muckspreader. Certainly much more entertaining than Celebrity Brain Crash :p

Overall I'm just enjoying having 2 high budget car shows on TV to watch :)

It's what the cool kids do.

don't understand why everyone is so anti Harris.

In EP1 he was trying way too hard, the way he was yelling at Professor Xavier in the car really got on my nerves, plus his inane ability to have to top every single person at every single challenge and then brag about it. The most amusement I've got out of him so far is when he took his loss on the free-wheeling race so badly. You could tell he was seriously struggling to come to terms with the fact that Matt beat him. That said, he had improved vastly over the last three episodes and was actually rather pleasant last night.

I thought whatsername putting him in his place and making him say please last night was fantastic, but then I loved Black Books so she was already on a good start with me. I always liked Harris' reviews on Youtube, hopefully he calms down more to that character again.

Sabine spanking everything around the track was ace, regardless of all the other cars not going over 30mph or whatever. It's obvious that most, if not all of those cars would tear that little Golf to shreds around the 'ring, so I just took it as what it was: light hearted entertainment.

I also liked that the 124 got panned. Most of the reviews I've seen on it have been sucking it off something silly so it was good to see the whole trio say it didn't live up to expectations.

Sabine probably knows the Nürburgring better than anyone. While the other cars are doubtless faster, I don't find implausible that she can drive the Golf faster round the track than people who aren't professional racing drivers in expensive cars they're worried about crashing.

As mentioned by someone earlier the Clubsport on a full setup, tires, biasing, etc. all setup for the ring did a 7:49 time - a standard 911 Turbo (I think it was one of the vehicles they overtook but I wasn't really paying attention to the cars specifically) with everything stock has a record of 7:38 (EDIT: But yeah she would out do many a driver in cars that close).

I do sub 9 minute laps there and I get slaughtered by old stripped out Golf's with cages in driven by pensioners.

Tricked out Golfs seem to do quite well on there.

Something like a Mk2 with that 1.8T and stripped out, etc. is no slouch heh.
No they are not!

I don't confess to knowing the track, I've done some 30 laps there but I overtake some incredible machinery and I am also overtaken by cars and I think 'what?!?'. Knowledge is everything there, the lines are all odd due to constant resurfacing and changes.

Yeah I was interested in DAIR's video on here where the instructor is explaining about the surface.
It changes every year I go, some sections can be completely different. I don't drive it anywhere near as hard as I do on a regular circuit, it's too manic for that! Actually as each year goes on it's more about just being there and seeing the cars, time with friends, drinking beer, local food, the sights over the driving of the track itself (not in that order!). I much more look forward to Spa which is an epic circuit.

Eddie China leaving Wheeler Dealers, I'd love to see him co-present with Le Blanc. He has a good likeable personality and clued up from a point most of us can relate.
