The "Top Gear", Season 24/25/26 thread

Get Rory off of it, I can't stand him.

Twingo bit was meh.

Matt and Chris are great as usual and enjoyed Matt being on the bike

I still can't believe they made the worst part of old Top Gear (Star in RPC) into half an episode feature. It's unbearable.

Also... during this episode it hit me - drop Rory Reid (he's got TV presence only radio would appreciate and voice/accent predispositions to be a silent mime) and get someone from Oz. Englishman, American and Australian. Not only fits current lineup better but makes for perfect syndication material.

They had a great opportunity with the Ducati, and basically said "this is a ducati, it's a bike, it's nice" and that was it. Not a single spec, no price, nothing. I suppose the same can be said of the boat and plane, but then most of us can afford a bike whereas a boat like that or plane would not be within reach. Granted the Superleggera is eye wateringly expensive, but it'd be a good start. Even if they did one bike segment a month or something I'd love it.

The problem with the race was not only had it all been done before but it was done better by the old lot.

Boat? - when old TG did a race on water, Clarkson used a Quadski which was interesting, not just a passenger on a speedboat
Plane? - when old TG did that (incidentally in the Veyron race) it was May flying it
Bike? - when old TG used a bike in a race, it was Hammond on a vintage Black Shadow versus the Flying Scotsman, not just a modern superbike about which they tell us nothing.

This is my big issue with new TG - not only is it all recycled but I just sit there all the time thinking the original lot did it far better, with more interesting vehicles, more humour and more camaraderie.

It's crazy to think that LeBlanc carries Top Gear. I enjoyed last night though.

I suspect this is on the BBC, I also suspect the current presenters get little in the way of freedom of thinking of ideas like the old three.

I guess w ejust have to give it time (probably 10+ series) and see where we are then, it's still finding its feet essentially as to what it is post Clarkson.

I enjoy Chris's car sections but when it comes to the studio, etc. it hits a wall, problem remains that Rory and Chris both essentially occupy the same slot - it desperately needs that 3rd person who is comfortable going off script, etc. even if that means either alternating Rory and Chris or removing one of them. (EDIT: I get a feeling they are trying to use the guest stars to try and do that somewhat but it isn't really working).

I don't see a need to change it too much it is just missing that spark - IMO the stuff Vertigo1 is complaining about will come as they get more comfortable with it etc.

I really enjoyed last night, Rory's bit with the Twingo was a ok, Still think he's a muppet though, the Race with the Chiron was nothing out of the ordinary but well shot, and some lovely scenery, i even watched the show after about Turkey and how much it's changed, I've tried watching TGT again and just can't get into it, Clarkson is really starting to annoy.

.

yep, really annoying, always skip this bit as I find it tedious and have no idea who a lot of them are, problem is I'm not sure if I'm missing anything now

That's what I hate about this show too. It's way, way too long and boring and most of the time I could not give a toss about the so called 'stars'.

Apart from that last nights episode was really good.

The Twingo bit was a bit naff.

split the show into 2 sections

1..........comparison of supercar vs supercar, over 60 000 quid
2..........comparison of sports cars vs sports cars, including fast saloons......up to 60 000 quid

most people will be interested in section 2, you dont need humour and silly gimmicks, just great reviews, because this show isn't for petrol heads at the moment, there isn't enough technical info, it's too lightweight and focused on the personalities.

the show doesn't go into any depth with its reviews, it's skating over the surface, leaving you needing to visit Chat forums or Googling/ Youtube.............i.e that Golf last week, because in reality that Golf is nothing like as fast as they described.

we need something that's a cross between Jay Leno's garage and Wheeler Dealers, where the presenters are true Petrol Heads, that ask and find out the info that you're after too, where they talk about rival cars as well.

say you wanted to buy either a newish Mustang or an older Evo X etc.................. well you can forget Top Gear, because you'll never see this on Top Gear will you..............see what i mean, the show is ****** rubbish !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

instead we get a review on a 2 million quid Bugatti.............OMG, what a stupid review, who the hell of us has got 2 million quid, come on BBC just grow up and wise up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

^^ There are plenty (sort of) of shows that do what you are talking about - and they aren't as popular as TG for a reason (not just because of the now departed 3 former presenters).

Too much of that and they are just competing with the many youtube channels now popping up doing just that.

Quite excitable aren't you? It's an entertainment show with cars, not a car show and has been for many, many years.

You bought an Evo yet?

That sounds really dull. No one watches Top Gear for reviews of cars they might buy. They watch it to see 'normal' people drive around like nutters in exotica that is out of almost everyone's reach.

Except that's not what people want to watch?

If someone is in the market for a new car, do you really think they're going to consider the opinions of a car-based entertainment show over their own research, proper test drives conducted by magazines, and by visiting a dealer??

Ummm nope, that's exactly what TG was when no one watched it.

I used to really like Chris Harris, liked his youtube stuff etc but for whatever reason I am starting to like him less and less each episode. I can't really put my finger on it other than to say I am pretty sure its the persona he is trying to play but my god it's winding me up.

I personally thoroughly enjoyed last nights episode. I'm not too keen on Rory but I think he did ok.

Can't stand TGT.
