The "Top Gear", Season 24/25/26 thread

I have to say I'm liking the new series of Top Gear. I think they seem to have found their feet now and are gelling more as a team. Still not sure about Rory, but I guess he's growing on me a bit. The feature sections I think they have got nailed and the productions featuring both MLB and Chris are very good. They seem natural at those parts.

It seems like they try to pack more into a show now which I guess keeps thing more interesting. The star in reasonably priced car bit is getting a bit old though I agree. Same thing every week.....it's just not that enjoyable to watch someone drive badly round a track. Depends a lot on the guest as well. The guests have generally been good I felt, but that section does seem the more awkward and drags on.

In terms of comparing to The Grand Tour... I'm liking the competition now and hopefully each show tries to out do each other. Great TV all round for the consumer! I like both, and both have bits that can be improved. :) Top Gear certainly redeemed itself and seems alive again now. Be interesting to see if boths hows listen to feedback and aim to improve on what we want to see.

I've really enjoyed it apart from the celebs being on it far too long and that race to Oman was a bit pointless

I find waiting for it to be on Iplayer improves the experience haha

Definitely getting better. Felt a lot less like they were just reeling off a script compared to the previous ones.

But, still lacks the humour of the old 3.

I enjoyed that episode a lot.

It was really annoying me for ages what the background music Durring the Ford gt bit was, I figured out it was from tron in the end.

Race thingy boring me to tears yet again.
You boring old git vertigo ;) thought it was great personally! Yeh it's not as funny as the old trio but some great footage, exciting cars and a bit of banter every now and then without it getting utterly ridiculous like TGT was.

TBH I think I'm just getting bored with the whole format, whether it's TG or TGT doing it. It's all just been done to death over the past 15 years of TG.

Their best episode so far, and I think they're getting better each week.

Rory still seems like the weak link to me, but Chris Harris is getting less manic and the whole team seem more comfortable and less like they're reading from a script.

Chris Hoy was amazing in the car, you can tell he's got serious racing experience.

Enjoyed that, looks like Matt and Chris are settling into the show, no idea what that other fella is supposed to bring to the table.

Chris vs Sabine at the Ring would be entertaining :D

I thought it was a bit odd putting Chris Hoy on the board at all tbh, seems mightily unfair on the rest. Good entertainment watching him go at it all the same

Yeah I agree Chris Hoy has had some serious motor racing training in the last few years. They don't put numpty's in the Le Mans series.

Really, Hoy should have been in the old Liana. He's driven LMP3 and LMP2 cars.

Oh, and Sabine in full TV make up looks a bit like a drag queen.

Strong episode, though I still hate how long the star in a car section lasts.
I find it drags far less though. So far it's not really been people really pushing new films like it often was and they're talking about car related stuff with it being somewhat blended with the old news segment. I'd not miss it if it was removed though...

It felt a little like Rory was set up to fail in that episode, specifically with the autonomous racer bit. There's no way any true enthusiast or petrol head would even contemplate supporting a driver-less racing formula as it's pointless, so the script writers obviously set up that bit just for a bit of an on-screen argument about it, with Rory the proponent. Of course he then gets shot straight down and made to look an idiot which is a bit unfair when he already seems to be under pressure, judging from many comments here and elsewhere.
