The Touchpad Android thread

this is what he said, he cannot believe that a tablet which retailed for £400+ with parts alone worth £200+ is a good deal for under £100, call me pedantic but i doubt it would take a rocket scientist to work that one out

You're proving my point there? Or are you trying to say the same thing I am? :p

He's saying that he is amazed with the deal he got. Getting "a tablet which retailed for £400+ with parts alone worth £200+" for £100 (your own words there) is obviously a good deal.

I guess we're making the same point then?

So when is ICS going to be on the Touchpad or is it still being ported?

you can probably get it now if you can convince the guys working on it your a developer and want to help contribute. expect a alpha within a month though i reckon, a beta within 3 months and a full working version within 6 months.

they are moving quite fast with it.

Those desperate to try out ICS who have an sd card handy can pick up the x86 4.0.3 build. Just dump the iso on the sd card, boot it and install it to the sd card. (works brilliantly on a nc10)
I'm extremely impressed with how far android has come since 2.3 and have my fingers crossed for the TP once the drivers and low level bugs are worked out.

A warning to those expecting an epic android tablet. Dalingrin has said himself that if you want a proper/solid android experience pick up a proper android tablet that either has or will have ICS from the oem.
While I have a good feeling about the general outcome of ICS, we're lucky to have 2.3 as it is.

Cheers, this is the version I have installed. Someone further up was talking about a Beta version, maybe they are confused (this is Alpha 3.5).

alpha 3.5 is the last version they will ever release, work had moved onto ICS, no point in cm7 on the touchpad, it's not made for tablets.

therefore it's better they have moved onto ICS than perfect an imperfect outdated OS.

I believe xron will continue to receive updates if you want wifi issues etc patched.

I haven't had wifi issues (Connect to multiple WLANs + my Phone happily). I do get a few Sleep of Deaths which are a bit annoying. Do you know if the problem exists on the xron build?

Cool, that will save me time periodically looking for updates that won't appear! I found the 1st Alpha they released of GingerBread very useable, so hopefully the 1st ICS build will be as well.

My WiFi issue seems to have spread. At first, like I have always had with Android, I couldn't connect to my work (enterprise) network. I have tried using Advanced WiFi Config but trying to do most thing through the WiFi settings crashed the app. This now seems to happen even with my home network.

Does anyone know how to get the tablet version of apps/widgets? Also a good keyboard ?

make sure you have the newest alhpa 3.5 or 3, whichever one it is, then download the latest version of googleapps and install that from recovery mod, the new android market recognizes the touchpad as a tablet and automatically downloads the tablet version. although some apps dont work because the OS is still full of bugs.

Anyone tried MIUI on it?

nope, it's not stable either is it? i think everyone is waiting for an ICS alpha/beta

Has anyone got Shadowgun working?

as above OS is still full of bugs if an app doesnt work just wait for a stable release, not point messing about with it, you may end up bricking it or something
