The Touchpad Android thread

Can't seem to find one myself, so I just got one from the market.

Had N64oid running on it, ran pretty much perfectly (although I did OC it to 1.8), haven't tried much else though.

Cool. Do you recommend any specific task killer? The only one I have used is the one that comes with Go Launcher on my SGS2. That was fine for my needs.

I installed SNESator Lite and paid for sixaxis from the market and I can play a couple of games at normal speed with a PS3 controller. I will try out n64oid today.

Hmmm, could anyone check if the storage page is meant to be like this, I don't remember the sd card part being so large?

I literally just downloaded the one from the top of the list, I only needed it to kill N64oid as it didn't seem to want to exit at all.

i assume people are downloading it now to try it out but will update the to latest versions as they come out over the following weeks? would it be best for someone not bothered about android on it just yet to wait a few more weeks or is this good enough now and likely to be the only release for some time?

It's good but it's not perfect, if you're happy with WebOS and aren't too bothered about getting android then I'd say wait a while for a more polished version to come along.

Been using this alpha version a lot more than WebOS! Love it!

Really can't wait for some of the bugs to be sorted, a little annoying but very useable! :)

I'll install this once theres an easier way to completely wipe the whole thing back to stock, including partitions.

There is, it takes less than 1 minute of typing and 10-25 mins for WebOS Doctor to do it's thing.

Here's what I did:

Boot to WebOS (I'll assume you have preware installed on the TP). Look for a program called Xecutah, it's a client side terminal. Fire it up and type:

lvm lvscan

and it will show you all the partitions. The ones you want to remove are CM-Data, CM-system, CM-Cache.
To do that, at the terminal prompt, type:

Lvremove /dev/store/cm-system
Lvremove /dev/store/cm-cache
Lvremove /dev/store/cm-data

Reboot the device whilst holding the volume up key to get the white USB icon. Attach the TP to the PC.

Download WebOs Doctor and let it do it’s thing

Remove any old .android folders by mounting the TP to the PC.

I didn't back my TP up before I did this, and all the local media has gone. However, as far as applications go, it just goes off to the market and installs all your apps in the background. I had to re "preware" and kernel the unit again too.

I've been using the CM7 alpha on my Touchpad since last Thursday without once feeling the need to use webos, and have to say it is very, very impressive. The only things that niggle me are the dodgy haptic feedback and the occasional rebooting on poweroff, both things that are easy to live with.

As said previously it's very good for an alpha release and bodes well for future development. To those sitting waiting I'd say just do it, even the alpha, for me at least, is light years ahead of webos.

The one thing I actually miss (as an app from WebOS) is Kalemsoft. It just works, and works very very well. I'm yet to really find anything on Android that actually matches that.

For the media playing or streaming? For media playing MX Player seems to be my preferred option currently, for streaming add BubbleUPnP (and a pc server) or use ES File Explorer to browse network shares and stream directly from them.

the only problem I'm having is that sometimes if won't come out of standby and I end up having to hold the power and home button for 15 - 20sec to force a reboot.

I'm using the Dolphin HD browser which is pretty fast and also the gestures feature is pretty useful. Still need to get the hang of android as I never used it before, not sure if the apps are closed when you hit the home button so I end up installing taskkiller to stop them running.

Im waiting till beta at least. I like my tech to just 'work'. WebOS does that for me no problems. Press button, it works. I know you can dual boot etc, but its a lot of fuss for something that at the moment I am happy to leave alone!
