The µ43 thread - welcome to the really dark side

Why the M10 over the M5?

No sure the M5 offers anything i really need and I can spend that money saved on more/better glass.

The M5 just offers waterproofing (useless unless your lens is too) and an extra 1.5fps continuos shooting (not that bothered) and the 40mp super still picture (i might use this but I could have another lens for the price difference and the M10 may get this in a firmware update if I'm lucky) from what I can make out.

Or is there something else I'm missing?

Yeah £320 difference too. Thats a nice lens to go with the M10 :)

What did you go for in the end?

Buying the M5ii very soon. Pending my DSLR gear being sold. Got a friend coming round next Wednesday to take a look and buy some of it, then the rest will go online.

I've got the cash to go ahead and buy all the m43 stuff I want now, but I'm being good and waiting till the other stuff sells. :)

Nice Phate, you wont be dissapointed from the 12-40, i've taken some great shots on mine!

Really be interested to how you get on with the 9-14mm pro lens too. I'd love the 40-150mm pro lens, maybe when i've saved up a bit eh!

Also, are you wanting the 12 or 17mm primes purely for the aperture in low light? Admittedly the length of those two combined probably inst even as long as the 12-40mm lens in mm so both are better from a street photography point of view! However, i get on with mine ok enough as i have fairly large hands so can wrap the camera strap around my arm and hold the lens and camera with one hand, so convenient enough!

Yeah I've seen images from the Olympus Pro range and they look fantastic. :) - really looking forward to getting my hands on them all. I've tried the 9-18 f/3.5-5.6 which I borrowed from King4aday and I really loved the focal length. I was using it primarily underwater but it was fantastic. Distortion was a little strong, but I found some profiles for lightroom which fixed that easily enough :)

The 7-14 will be an awesome landscape lens and nice and fast when underwater which will really help. Manipulating light underwater is a ***** :D

The primes - I want one of these purely because I have the 35L now and I love it. I've also tried the 24L and again, loved it. These are the equivalent of those.

The only thing(s) that put me off the 7-14 are lack of support for a screw filter and the purple fringing on Olympus cameras.
I've got the 9-18 which i love and it will be my most used lens on my trip to NZ / OZ and (especially) Dubai. I've just secured a Olympus 75-300 now too so i'll sell my 40-150 to pay for it.
I don't think i'm 'into' photography enough anymore to warrant any of the pro range. I've got all my 'wish list' of lenses now bar one. The 60mm macro.

Very surprising that there's no filter connection, what are you supposed to do when taken landscapes photos with a 90 degree sun such as most of the day, ie a polarizer?

How you enjoying the 17mm matey?

I'm after a 4-150mm 4.0-5.6 R missed out on 2 on ebay yesterday which went for £70ish sadly :(

It's great bud :) Need to get out and have a proper session but with the weather being pretty crap and working like no tomorrow it's making it tough :(

Got to look at something to keep everything in next and then I'm going to get down to London or something :)

It's fairly common with fast ultra wide zooms. As Greebo says the issue is the inevitably bulbous front element. Often they can be bodged to take oversized filter holders but screw-ins are a no go.
