I'm wanting to go lower ohms ideally, but its tricky as the subtanks rba is rather limited as to how many turns you can get on a thicker wire.

Atm i'm consdering trying just a 6 strand straight twist (without retwisting) as these seem to be neater than double twisting and might stop the popping issue.

This has started to awake the tinker in me lol.

For my Subtank RBA i use dual twisted 26awg TI wire, spaced and run in TC mode, about 5 wraps on a .25mm bit and around 30-35w at 215C.

Coil looks like: |\\\|

Whats the largest sized liquid pots have you bought? I only tend to vape a menthol flavour and i tend to buy multiple 30ml pots when i do. Are their places that sell greater amounts? or should i just start mixing my own?

Menthol is a really easy one to mix up! Pick up some PG, VG, and nicotine, cheapest places are lubrisolve on ebay for PG/VG and darkstar for nic (or a local vape shop if you wanna buy smaller amounts to try it first), then get ahold of some menthol crystals from any sort of chemists or pharmacy, even boots. Usually you can get a little pot of 5g for ~£2. I mixed this up with 25ml of PG, waited for it to dissolve, and I mix this at 3% for a straight menthol flavour of comparable strength to totallywicked's Ice Menthol (saving friends & family money ;)). I think it worked out at 17p for a 30ml bottle at 6mg.

Thanks, i'm defo gonna have to look into thicker wire, i'm thinking i've got some stuff i can repurpose into a nice free spinning chuck to try my hand at claptons too.

Guess this is the first step on the road to cloud chasing

Well you dont need low ohms or claptons to chuck a cloud, just the right atty and mod.
Low ohms was originally designed for Mech mods as they could not be regulated to give more than the battery power so to get more out of the battery you had to build low, but with a regulated mod you can get a decent cloud from almost any coil in the right atty.
I used to build 2ohm coils in my Big Block 454 Dripper and could chuck a half decent cloud at 30w.

Ahh right, i figured it was more to do with the thicker the wire the more power abuse it could take without burning out.

Just goes to show there's a lot more to what is basically a coil of wire and some wool.

FlapR, for a standard power mode mode you want Kanthal wire, 26awg if you want to build a 0.5ohms coil in the subtank RBA section, you can get the wire from http://www.stealthvape.co.uk/wire/KANTHAL-REELS-SPOOLS

I would also recomend a spol tamer, i just got a bag of 25 off ebay for $18.50 delivered but stealthevape do them for .99p each.

As for wick, i personally prefer Rayon, i get Grahams Celucotton from Ebay, its cheap and wicks Very well and is easy to use.

As for tools, good sharp wire cutters, ceramic tweezers and pointy tweezers and a coiler, i recommend the coil master or Kuro coilers. Lastly an Ohm reader.

Perfect, thanks a lot!

What ohms are you building to and when you change coils have you held in the up and down buttons to register the new resistance?

I find my IPV D2 registers the ohms about 0.02 lower than it should.
The Minimum resistance it will fire is 0.2ohms, so if yours is under reading too, then a 0.2ohm coil will read as 0.18 and thus say too low...

Ahh this explains it then, so I literally can't fire up any of the TFV4's coil heads? Also what is 50 Joules equivalent to in watts? thats the max it goes to in temp mode and its pretty underwhelming.

Well, tried just a single strand of 0.25 wrapped a fair few times, it's come out at 5 ohm but its not crackling/spitting, decent vapour too.

I'm thinking the juice in these tight twists is flash boiling in the gaps between the wires, defo gonna need to get some thicker wire

I built a lot of twisted wire coils, using 26awg Titanium and running in TC mode, only one ever gave me bad spitting, normally they gave a nice flavoursome toot, wicking can play a big part in this, too much or too little.
Wicking is probably one of the most crucial parts in a build.

Hi Tommy, I've repied to you by email. I've put together a 10ml bottle for you and have posted it but missed the midday deadline, so it'll get to you on Tuesday. Meanwhile, it's steeping over the weekend at the bottom of a red letterbox. :D

Oh, for anyone interested in a really easy recipe, here's one. Just uses..erm.. one or two flavours. :p

Cheers dude, I'll sort a mix for you out from my side and get it sent across :-)

Hmm, so maybe i need to work on my wicking more than my wiring then.

I guess this is the advantage of the subtank is i can tinker but when it comes to day to day vaping drop in a premade for reliability

I mix all my own now. I sell 50 mill for a fiver to a few mates at work and that's the kind of max price I would pay now I know how cheap it is to DIY.

I would get an RDA for tinkering. It'll be easier to tinker with usually.

I got one of these : https://www.fasttech.com/products/3028/10008103/2134701

And it is, by far, my best atty for flavour. But being a quad coil thing, with relatively small post holes, it doesn't necessarily lend itself to epic builds. Still relatively easy to build on though.

I also have one of these : https://www.fasttech.com/products/3028/10008103/2134701

And one of these : http://www.gearbest.com/electronic-cigarettes/pp_196690.html

They are both pretty similar to be honest. But have nice big post holes, and are pretty easy to build on. Can get some massive wire in the post holes, so can make some crazy looking builds.
