The 2nd Bios with powersave config gives the biggest reduction in power draw (in gaming and furmark tests at least) while also providing the highest MH/S out of the 6 configurable power settings.
edit. It cuts power consumption by 33% compared to the stock 1st bios balanced configuration. Curious as to whether both the reduction in power draw and improved mining perf are simultaneously sustained.

Now I am back to waiting again for Volta. Shame as I would have rather given my money to AMD if I am honest. If I was on 1440p, I would be buying a Vega 56. But Vega won't cut it at 4K with the games coming out next year which I want to play at 4K.
Maybe. The RRP of consoles suggest profit margins of any suppliers are extremely tight.

I never expected it to beat the 1080ti, AMD just don't have the resources and in a year when the are launching Ryzen, Threadripper and Vega, they were always going to be stretched thin.
I was expecting 3-5 versions (maybe more will come later) And I did think the top Vega would come between 1080 and 1080ti, the next Vega would be around 1080 and the lower Vega would be better than the 1070. And I still feel that that's achievable, just hope the driver team get the improvements out as fast as they did with Polaris and Ryzen.
My biggest disappointment is the price. The plan they used for combating the problem with miners getting all the cards has back fired. The packs have just pushed up the retail prices. I was hoping for $349 for the Vega 56, $449 for Vega 64 and $599 for Vega Liquid.

I'm sure it was something intelligent and thoughtful and above all, original.
As such, something unheard of in this thread of echos. I wonder why they didn't appreciate it.

And Polaris, and Fiji. I remember Fiji being hyped to oblivion with the brand new HBM technology.
You have to give it to AMD - they've got some seriously dedicated fans. Of course I would call some of them delusional. Their hatred for Nvidia clouds their judgement after all.
It never needed to beat the 1080ti. Plenty of us have fond memories of AMD cards like the 7850. Perf/£ kings.
Sadly what we got was the perfect storm.
Bad perf/$. Bad perf/watt. Trades blows with a 1080, which isn't even nV's best chip (GP104), let alone their best card.
There isn't one thing that sunk Vega. It's everything. It's just a mess, sadly. And let's not even mention AMD's PR tactics (oh dear).
From AMD's side it is even more of a disaster. The Vega chip is far larger than the GP104 so more expensive to produce, the HBM2 memory and interposer are much more expensive as well, and the power consumption requires more expensive PCB/VRms and power circuitry. Vega64 costs AMD a heck of a lot more to produce than Nvidia's 1080, and while AMD have sacrificed profit margins to keep prices somewhat close to the 1080 this means they will struggle to recoup R&D costs. This just contributes to their downward spiral.

The other issue AMD face is it is clear they have a huge mountain to overcome to get anywhere close to Nvidia in terms of architecture. Performance per watt for Vega is very similar to Maxwell despite Maxwell being on 28nm! Even if Navi comes out with a massive architecture change and unseen performance improvements, it will still be some way behind Volta. But given AMD's timeline it looks like Volta and Navi will only overlap slightly, Navi will end up for most of its life against the successor to Volta.

In terms of gaming an epic fail yes. In terms of selling cards to miners as quickly as they can make them. Epic success!
Which is odd in itself, because they don't seem to be better than the 480/580/1070 for mining, but are more expensive and use more power.
So most of us are scratching our heads why miners would want them.
