Poll: The Vega Review Thread.

What do we think about Vega?

  • What has AMD been doing for the past 1-2 years?

  • It consumes how many watts and is how loud!!!

  • It is not that bad.

  • Want to buy but put off by pricing and warranty.

  • I will be buying one for sure (I own a Freesync monitor so have little choice).

  • Better red than dead.

Basically. It eats energy and isn't a bargain.
Apart from that it kicks out fps like a 1080 in games and has freakishly strong compute performance that obliterates any other card pro versions or not in certain workloads. But gamers don't wanna hear that bit, obviously no good to them.

It seems a shame, I will wish to upgrade in the next twelve months but frankly that card munching energy might not be the way forward for me.
Will wait and see.

Have any reviews suggested any benefit or synergistic effect from pairing it with zen, as most review beds I have seen are running an intel chip?

It's just like every other launch. There is an RRP in this case two RRP's, a limited edition and standard RRP. Which as usual, are being ignored by retailers. Favoring jacking prices sky high until launch fever dies down. Best thing to do is wait until the hikery settles imho.

I would be interested in a review showing it with a Ryzen CPU, it would be nice to have a full AMD system.

This is what interests me, not so much the features yet tobe enabled, not what reviews say but the fact vega has infinity fabric. Now on ryzen its tied to ram speed, faster ram faster ryzen yum yum. So how does the infinity fabric on vega work hmm

I am loosing the will to even read this thread now.

It seems to be quite simple, AMD said the card would retail at X amount. The card was reviewed using the figure that turned out to be a discounted limited stock figure.

Seems a bit deceptive to me. The very fact AMD are still stonewalling this shows me they know the mess they have created. Did they release a statement yet?

No, not yet. And I agree with your take on it. AMDMatt has said AMD Marketing is working on a statement, and wisely added he doesn't belong to that branch. :P

Meantime I'm in awe of Gibbo right now, to be honest. He's gotten OcUK mentioned in a ton of videos/websites, and shown others world-wide the difference between having a retailer that talks as plainly as they can to their customers, and the retailers (the majority) that don't talk to them at all about these things. AMD cannot do diddly squat about it, because the spotlight is also on them (for the wrong reasons) so all they are going to be able to do is confirm what Gibbo has said, or knee-jerk react and change their plans and reduce pricing. Either of which should benefit OcUK and/or customers as well.

Deliberately didn't get one at 2pm on launch day as wanted to read reviews etc, knew that would probably mean not getting one but as we'd been promised plenty of stock , didnt see like it would be a big wait.

If prices really are going to settle around £600 then AMD can do one. Very shoddy behavior by AMD, but hey their loss. I'm done with them now to be honest, one fiasco after another. Loyal AMD user since 9500pro and before.

Another Freesync monitor headed to MM soon.

I don't think you understand what's being discussed............

It's irrelevant when or if the price was changed.

Fact if the matter is vega is offering less for more and that is a fail in anyone's book. Yes the reviews should be changed to reflect that but it's not like the reviews were great anyway. The one from Tweaktown was a disaster for AMD.

That doesn't answer the question everyone is asking.

Yep everyone went "wut?" on that one lol.

New rumor going around the 100$ "extra" may not be just on the Air 64, but also on the LC... But I think that one has more to do with e-tailers gouging because of the situation AMD have created

I looked through that listed review, all the stats for the vega make it within the range of a 1080 on virtually every test at every res at high detail settings. Some it is 10% ahead, some 10% behind.
That isn't quite as terrible as I thought from the initial patterns on the thread.

Main issue is the hike in price then, and the power the card consumes?
A stock fe 1080 or an overclocked AIB model?

Not arguing, showing you that they gave a 499$ msrp to the 64 without saying it was a limited time offer. THE NEW GPU KING under 500$ (but only for 15 minutes ....)
You're the one arguing.
There is no way to defend AMD, even AMD can't defend themselves otherwise they would have...

Take a step back, breath, come back and maybe you will see things with a different eye.

Agree with this ... What are AMD doing :(

I don't think you understand what's being discussed............

I really do................

Retailers accuse AMD of price hikery, meanwhile actually price hiking themselves.

AMD fans getting upset, even though Nvidia have been bending us over for years.

It's all a bit ironic really.

Ultimately though, it's just like every other GPU launch, wait for the launch fever to calm down, then buy. Pricing and what's available will be much better.

One can only lead a horse to water. Not make them drink.
