Poll: The Vega Review Thread.

What do we think about Vega?

  • What has AMD been doing for the past 1-2 years?

  • It consumes how many watts and is how loud!!!

  • It is not that bad.

  • Want to buy but put off by pricing and warranty.

  • I will be buying one for sure (I own a Freesync monitor so have little choice).

  • Better red than dead.

Inflated pricing due to lack of supply?? Plenty in stock last time checked. Maybe amd think gamers are thick? Who knows.
all this pricing issue is dumb.
vega stock isn't very high due to HBM2 and Miner's frenzy, AMD needed to find a way to keep vega from going extinct like RX 580, so AMD added packs on top of regular standalone cards, so gamers could still get the card with packs for extra but with some added value for gamers, this way they can keep some kind of control over to price gouging due to out of stock situation, when the standalone cards ran out of stock all that was left is the gamer pack with 2 games for extra 100$, and due to Gibbo's post, ppl thought the standalone was 599 instead of 499, that's about all there is to it.
and apparently not all retailers got the standalone card, some got only the pack gamer for 599$, that's what added to the confusion.

Remember when people said we were idiots for using the RX Vega results to extrapolate for Vega 64. Where are all those people now?

The original leaks that showed performance at 1200mhz also turned out to be correct. People refused to use those numbers as a baseline for how a chip at 1600mhz would perform.

There is some "evidence" that what Gibbo was saying concerning the AMD rebate on the standalone is true... The (only) French official AMD partner e-tailer, had all the card in stock at launch, they priced all of them at 750€, but on the standalone version there was(is) a very specific "242€" code rebate (now yes way more than the 100€, but because they overpriced everything it's logic when compared to standalone MSRP), the rebate was not AIB specific, now on the product page they link to a PDF which mentions that it's valid for 1 month till 15/09/2017 or up to the limit of 137 units sold.
This would also indicates that they didn't even get 137 standalone units in stock, because the cards are out of stock but you can still preorder with the rebate code. Keep in mind this is one of the largest and most reputable e-tailers in France, probably very similar to OCUK.

With the way my 1080 gets warm at high resolutions and at high refresh rates I couldn't imagine how hot and loud a Vega is. Especially one with the stock blower!

85c and that's with it blowing at 3000rpm LMAO. My EK cover can't come soon enough, dpd tracking reporting it in Germany this afternoon so will prob get it on Wednesday.

The main question is. Is Vega 64 (blower black) more "power limited" than the Liquid version and wont achieve the same overclocks and performance if watercooled?

I had the 1080 G1. The cooler is not very good that is why it gets warm and even I would say loud. If you look at it, it is a small cooler compared to an AMP Extreme or an Aurus Extreme. Hell even my 290 Tri-X which I recently picked up on members market makes less noise that my 1080 G1 did, and we all know how loud 290's were.

That is why when I get my Volta card, I will either be buying an AMP/Aurus Extreme or just buy reference and put a block on it.

I don't find it loud or hot. It's warm. Hot was my 670's in SLI. That was dangerous to touch the side of the case.

Nah. I'm impressed with the G1. It's no louder than my 970 G1.

I suppose it is all relative. If you had an AMP Extreme cooler and then went to a G1, you would know what I am talking about, but comparing it to a 670 SLI for heat and noise, I am guessing even Vega 64 reference would look not look bad :)

TNA bought my old card and I was also impressed with the heat and noise. I did come from ref cooled Titan X's though, so I am probably not the best judge when noise is concerned, as anything is better than a ref cooler. I now have the MSI Gaming X 1080Ti with the Frozr cooler and whilst it is slightly quieter than the Gigabyte, I can't really say there is much in it but then again, I have my comp under my desk tucked to the back, so it is generally inaudible regardless of what is in it :)

So quite a few features are turned off? Did they not finish in time? With developer support, could this improve performance?
