US: The Walking Dead Season 3 (contains spoilers)

That took a totally different direction to what I expected. It's good that I didn't see much of it coming, yet I'm feeling slightly underwhelmed.

WORST EPISODE EVER.

Whaaaat?! I hope that's sarcastic mockery of some kind? :p

[Note - if you haven't seen episode 16 yet DO NOT read on!]

That episode was just fantastic. I had a strong feeling that the Governor would survive - too iconic a character to let slip away in a single season arc.

I love that one of the biggest surprises was the absence of a wholesale slaughter among the main cast. It says something about the show when we've come to expect a periodic mass-culling of characters that have been on screen for years.

I thought Andrea's exit worked just beautifully, and the scene with Michonne was quite touching. We've never seen her show anything close to that level of emotion, and it cut quite deeply as a result. As did Carl "schooling" his Dad on what must be done to survive - you could just tell that Rick could see Shane reflected in his son. He will never fully escape from him...

As for the Governor's "little tantrum"... well, I think we all knew that he had it in him. He would rather lose his power base than lose his control over them. It was still quite shocking though!

Anyway, I thought it was a fantastic end to the best season yet of Walking Dead. Roll on series 4 in October!

i disagree, weak episode and end to the season, we are almost in the same boat as when the season started some 16 episodes ago. the Governor needed killing regardless of how good he played the roll. so what we gonna have a repeat next season, the Governor v rick again... bah poor

Good I thought - needed to be like that, the Governer showing his true side and the 'originals' being what they were/are... human ie taking everyone left in.

That's how I like to think the world would be like, renegades like the Governer with a couple of mercenaries doing as they wish... then decent groups etc

Andrea had to go... Milton as well. It was just too obvious if they went Gov v Rick showdown to finish.... I don't think we will see the Gov for a while in Season 4, more of a breakup of the bigger group / maybe they try to take woodbury for themselves?

I can also see the series move towards a resolution... ie Military/Government restoring control of some sort and a hope for a end to it all.

That's me guessing, I know the comics last forever... but I cant see a TV show like this going on for too long (as much as Id love it too).

The audio for the last 6mins of my download were messed, I thought I was going to have to download a different version to watch the final exciting 6mins that were going to finish off the season nicely adding some good progression and leave us on an interesting cliffhanger that would make us enthusiastic about season 4, but no, the final 6mins were actually a black screen, and I had to x out feeling incredibly underwhelmed.

It was a bit rubbish, but I find it hard to distinguish the rubbish episodes from the bad ones :o. It feels like a worse Lost - with that, I felt obligated to keep watching, in case something happened... but at least I actually cared about some characters in Lost :\.

Lol at him just mowing down ALL his 'soldiers'. Da fuq. And no one shot him = :|. Just an incredibly lazy way to wipe out that town, tbh (from the perspective of the writers, of course).

I think it was a lot worse because it was a finale, and you expect a lot more from a finale - not less!!! :(

And it sure was crazy - but not as crazy as Rick and the gang bringing the rest of them back to the prison?

There were too many instances in the episode where I found myself thinking "wtf". For example, Andrea has killed 3000 walkers with her bare hands (maybe an exaggeration) but yet can't safely dispose of Milton with a pair of pliers, also why did it take her 40 minutes to pick them up from the floor? It's a simple 5 second manoeuvre. And the Woodburry gang roll into the prison with about 30/40 people, all armed to the teeth with an M32 and everything, yet run for their lives when 2 people fire back and a couple of sirens go off. Seriously?

I'm very disappointed with that "finale", and to top if off I've to wait over 6 months for the next episode :(:(:(:(:(

PS. Someone needs to slap Carl!! :p

I think season 1 is still the best season but I agree with all you've said above...a very fitting way to end the season and I for one think it will be very interesting to see how this develops going forwards into Season 4.

Quite the emotional episode at times.

I'm still on the fence having slept on the finale.

I kind of liked that I didn't see the series ending that way, but I kind of hate the lack of action and that was no clear end to any story arc really.

I'm all for character development, but does that level of it have it's place in what's our last viewing of the show for 6 months? Surely a bit more of a cliffhanger ending would have been more fitting?

Anyway, I'll still be watching as I love TWD on the whole, just still not sure on this season's ending.

Fantastic episode and it finished the season of really well! Completely agree duff man.

I was not expecting a lot of that stuff to happen so was a nice surprise.

However, I think they should have taken care of the governor. Bit surprised none of the main cast died, especially glenn or Maggie.

Although not sure why they didn't just take over woodbury considering the majority of the governor's group are dead??? Much safer, nicer and I am sure that there would have been loads of supplies around there.

I wonder what season 4 will revolve around? Making the prison a proper home?

Oh and I just knew there would be posts along the lines of "zOMG, boring/worse episode ever"

Well now you know not to watch the show then as it isn't going to change one bit :p And in fact the next season will be even "worse" :p

Well, pretty much everyone agreed the show improved dramatically at the start of season 3 over season 2.

Then, I recall they removed some writers who were responsible for that, and then the show has lacked since.

The consensus generally is that the season finale disappointed, you just seem far too forgiving.

The show has changed, that's the point, it's not about people wanting something else, they want the show they liked in Season 1 and early Season 3.
I mean really, why have they extended this arc?

But you just seem to dismiss people (Probably because it's got DG being himself, and Arknor being himself, giving their "points" poorly)

They had to increase the size of the main group, if they had killed off another 2-3 of them they would not of exactly been many people left to base the show on, I think the governor should have been killed off, bits on the net say he will be a main character in season 4.

As to not taking over Woodbury, they do not have the numbers to constantly man the gates and walls, the prison provides a safe environment, with the walkers fenced off, plenty of room to grow stuff on the field outside and a secure inside the prison is the best place to be.

And the Woodburry gang roll into the prison with about 30/40 people, all armed to the teeth with an M32 and everything, yet run for their lives when 2 people fire back and a couple of sirens go off. Seriously?

What is so hard to believe about that?

They are in a dark corridor with multiple doors, exits/entries and had flash bangs thrown in (they had no masks etc.) and then had a siren going of (which are extremely loud) as well as people firing (they would have no idea where Rick etc. would be) not to mention walkers coming at them too.

Plus as they said to the governor, they thought that this group were crazy, really bad guys and obviously experienced/capable of handling themselves since they had killed how many of woodbury's group in total, 15+? ~And how many of Rick's group were killed? 2/3+? Despite the governor having way more fire power and way more men.

Despite being "armed to the teeth", they are not true soldiers and aren't as well prepared as Rick's group, whilst they were all safe in woodbury with food, drinks, shelter etc. Rick's group were moving from house to house, scavenging for anything that they could eat over the winter for 7 months, they were barely hanging on.

Governor's people were just normal people who have probably never killed any other living person let alone many walkers.

Arknor - same complaint every week! Just watch something else mate - there are lots of shows out there that are heavy on the action you seem to crave week in and week out.

By the way, Walking Dead is now the best rated show of all time on US cable. The series 3 mid-season finale attracted 15.5 million viewers (for comparison the finale of Lost got 10.8 million), and it seems this episode will get even higher ratings.

Still, AMC are reported to be further cutting its production budget to help finance Mad Men, leading to show runner Glen Mazzar leaving the show. Next series we get a new show runner - the guy who wrote "Clear", and the "Sophia in the barn" episodes. Will be interesting to see where they take it. From what I've read, the first eight episodes will focus more on the undead threat, rather than the humans.

Edit: if I recall, even the Governor said that the prison is the safest place around. He chose Woodbury to make people feel "more at home". After all, the prison has high walls and fences, and doesn't need constant guarding to keep out the zombies. I wonder how they will feed all these new people though, without Woodbury's crops etc. I suspect that will be a major plot element next series.
