fair dos to microsoft. that maxed out my 20Mbps connection for the whole download. :)

i know my connection aint the fastest but not many content providers can max it out all the time. and i bet they are getting hammered too.

got it installed fine but how do i turn off the metro tile thing appearing when clicking the start button? i want the classic start menu. right clicking the start button/taskbar doesn't have any options at all. :o

I had play it and here is my outcome reviews:

1) SSD will not formatted automatically on the spare unformatted SSD during installation (Windows 7 can do it) I had to use partition magic to create primary in NTFS and this time setup work, take approx 14 mins (7 mins on windows 7)

2) I don't like the start up screen, Metro tile lay-out it pretty horrible!

3) Device drivers was ok but most on my sandybridge drivers won't work. (no problem on Windows 7)

4) Gadget doesn't work and crashed

5) Shutdown is a painful 4 mins! (windows 7 is 3 seconds)

6) Boot up in 56 secs (24 secs in Windows 7)

My overall rate is 35% for windows 8 compare to 88% for windows 7 and this new windows 8 is a VISTA nightmare!

Roll on windows 9 is my best bet!

performance is absolutely fine on my old p35 chipset/e5200@3ghz/3gb ram. but the usability is pretty horrible. i guess it's just a case of finding your way around but it's not very intuitive.

Yeah I'll be trying it on a P4 2.8 tomorrow lol
should be a good test of how resource hungry it is, especially with 512Mb of ram!!

I have a laptop with them specs! 2.8GHz P4 and 512MB RAM and Win 8 will go on that. I could put Win 8 on my beefy rig, but the ultimate test will be on my ancient laptop. I have Win 7 on the laptop at the moment and it's pretty ****. Even XP was bad on that hardware. But from the vid Win 8 uses WAY less RAM than Win 7, and less processes too... could Win 8 actually run better than XP on ancient hardware?? Dun dun dun...

You do realise what a pre-BETA is? I mean it's only about a YEAR off until it's finished.

Done a epic face palm reading your comment.

Is it possible to turn off the ribbon UI in explorer and go back to the current W7 look? also is it possible to have the standard start menu back without it opening metro?

The whole point is to demonstrate some of the new technologies/features, not to get it back to how Windows 7 is. If you want Win7, use that instead.

Indeed, not quite sure what else he was expecting.

Damn you 5.5mb adsl connection still 37 mins remaining on the x64 iso :(

I'm going to fire this up in virtual box and possibly dual boot it on a touch screen all in one at work to see how it runs :D
