***The Wine Thread***

Mine hasn't arrived yet... stupid place. As soon as it does, I'll make sure it's as good as I remember. I think so though, the ratings are really quite good for it and I thought so when I tried it.

I would, anyway. Can't go wrong for a case on 6 bottles.

Any reviews on the montes cab sauv?

Another new discovery from local, independent wine shop - the Palladino Biferno Riserva 2010:

Just had a bottle of the 2011 vintage. It was a bit too cold but it was quite nice even so. A third of the bottle with a good steak at lunch, a sixth in the sauce; the rest with pizza this evening.

Nice, easy drink. Not as big and bold as it's big brother, much thinner while still packing a nice amount of flavour in. Blackberries and rubber to the taste, almost burnt toast to the nose and subtle short finish. Not too acidic, no harsh tannin finish as as such not too dry, either. I would give it a 3.8/5, which I think is a solid score, especially for the price range.

I have the Merlot I haven't tried yet and another bottle of "special Cab" I think it's called, I might have one over the weekend, but have been easing off midweek.

Argentinian Malbecs are much nicer than the French counterparts. I find a lot of the Bordeaux derivatives just too dry and a bit meh in terms of depth of any flavour, but having just seen that the grape variety requires more sun than the cab/ merlot to mature, this is probably why it excels in the new world regions.

I had a 2013 Graffigna Centenario Reserve Malbec from Argentina this week. It was pretty good: tobacco, dark fruit, oak woodiness, and good body (14.5% abv). Not the best value, though, at £12.

Got £100 stored up in my Naked account - will have to see what looks good shortly :) Does anyone else use them? We got in th.roiugh a voucher (as usual) but they seem to have a good business model and what we've had so far has all been good.

I also must dig out the details of some red we put down on my daughters birth 5 years ago - should be mega by the time she's 18. Or vinegar, maybe we should try one (just to check of course ;))

I use Naked Wines for my everyday drinking wines, they're quite good. I have £60 on my account at the moment, but will probably wait until next month before I spend it.

Just got these ones as they are good drinkable wines - nothing fancy but very decent.

Kimbao Carmenere Gran Reserva 2013 (free)
Arabella Shiraz 2015

Still have like 9 more to come I think? I have a Blu in the decanter at the moment!

^^ Nice

We had an American friend over last night and we both love the same sorts of wine. Our night's lineup...

The Blu is a fantastic buy. The price point is stunning, and highly recommend it. I will have to buy some more as I only bought 6 and have now drunk 2 of them lol
The Nativ, as always, winner. The Purple needed a bit more opening up, but was still super. You'll have a treat in a couple of years with that one.
Then the abstract is full and boozy, treacly and delicious. A good night for wine.

Had a bottle of Tesco's "finest" The trilogy malbec 2013 (Caterna) on Saturday night with porterhouse steak frites and chimichurri. Not a bad bottle of wine, but lacking compared to my usual Aussie shiraz.
