I was umming and ahhing about the Montessu and then the monsters at Vivino did a Happy Hour 15% off deal between six and ten tonight. I buckled at 2130. There were only three Montessu left, so I had to get three 2014 Molino di Sant'Antimo Brunello. All in, with shipping £106!!!

A great bit of shopping. And patience really is a virtue.

thanks to this thread I have bought some of the anniversario 62 and something san quirico both of which are outstanding italian reds. Any other similar italian primitivos 15-20 quid a bottle you would recommend?

The Papale Linea Oro Primitivo di Manduria is excellent. Should be £20-£25 per bottle. Don't confuse it with the Papale Primitivo di Manduria which is a cheap and cheerful version around £10 (NB: check for the Linea Oro, a gold band at the bottom of the label).

Edit: it's worth mentioning that the Nativ Eremico San Quirico is Aglianico grapes, not Primitivo. All the Nativ wines are worth a try. Have a look at Sardinian wines like Cannonau, and try Brunello di Montalcinos between £15 and £25 from Tuscany.

Ooo this I can help with...

Here are some of the ones that I love, rate, have in my basement or would buy again:

https://www.vivino.com/cantine-san-...-manduria/w/11890?year=2015&price_id=15092674

https://www.vivino.com/vigneti-del-...anduria/w/2441493?year=2016&price_id=17650137

https://www.vivino.com/vigneti-del-...anduria/w/6021913?year=2016&price_id=16825972

https://www.vivino.com/polvanera-si...l-colle/w/1235676?year=2013&price_id=19069466

https://www.vivino.com/polvanera-se...l-colle/w/1181450?year=2015&price_id=20228566

https://www.vivino.com/vigneti-del-...a-zolla/w/1926947?year=2017&price_id=17448159 - this is the best VFM you'll get. I have about 9 left at the moment, can often get a case deal at for me, about 8.50EUR a bottle. Amazing for the money. Real deal to take to people's houses and they are super impressed but you don't break the bank! :D

https://www.vivino.com/talo-primitivo-di-manduria/w/2272631?year=2017&price_id=20210776 - again decent price but not as full bodied or heavy. It's a much lighter that all the above. Better for sessions though if you're opening a few.

https://www.vivino.com/chiaramonte-ele-primitivo-puglia/w/1477376?year=2017&price_id=20220029

That should get you started!

Agreed on all the Nativs. The blue is a lighter drop, but the gold is superb! I'm not sure I have any left, pretty sure I drank it all. Got some 2016/14 and maybe a couple of 12 reds though.

I'd steer away from the Brunellos... mainly because it's become a bit of a minefield on quality. You can pay some $$$ but not get the wine from it. For a great red in tuscany, I'd hit up some of the Super Tuscans. Great quality and value.

I must be lucky with Brunellos, or I know what I'm doing... which I doubt. Super Tuscans are great, I agree. Look for the IGT designation (edit: and 2015 was an amazing year in Tuscany).

Had to get six Michel Rolland old vine Argentinian Malbecs, the Yacochuyo Tinto 2010. I say 'had to' because they reduced it from £34.80 to £26.35. When will they leave me alone?

Edit: from Vivino, obvs, and it's a 4.4 from over 500 reviews.

Haha I feel like you two should be able to self exclude like Gamblers can!

When the fun stops, stop. Always gamble/drink responsibly.

PFFT, if you are doing it responsibly it seems unlikely to be fun, imo.

Edit: in fact, I absolutely don't gamble. Not even the lottery. I have far too many addictions already.
