The Witcher 2 - Thread

Just finished Game! (installed on August, lol)

Can't say it was best game I played, however enjoyed it!
Graphics, characters, upgrades (levels/ armor, etc.), story (followed Iorveth's path) - All good!

My question- if in future I re-play game, can I use saves from first time I played to keep level/ upgrades/ armor, etc. which I collected during game?

I checked "new game" and new story begins from scratch.

Theres no new game+ iirc.

360, but the content will appear on PC as well, apparently there are hidden messages in the trailers revealing info about what will be included....but I can't be bothered to search for them

Thanks for the heads up, will most likely give it a go at the weekend. Is it important at all to have played the first Witcher game? Or is there no connection between the 2?

The story is not the same and they've made a good effort in explaining things thoroughly to newcomers too.

They're releasing an Xbox version of this game and first one was never out on Xbox, so that's the reason they can't make it rely on having played the first one. :)

Glad the xbox users will finally get to play it, good game but I still say the first is better for gameplay and story.

Im replaying the first witcher game now. Not played it since its release, so i get to have all the extras they put in it. Its definatally a much better game than the second, far more solid and lengthy story and no sudden endings. Second game is great, just not as good as the first.

I have but one problem with the 1st game - progress breaking bugs. I encountered at least 3 cases of a major plot line quest bugging out making it impossible to progress in the game. Other than that, agreed.

To be honest I always thought the second game was developed with one eye firmly on consoles, given that it was optimised for the 360 pad. The UI was obviously designed for gamepad navigation rather than keyboard and mouse, and the combat system definitely designed for gamepad first. It's the main reason why although I loved the first game, I haven't finished the second. It does look absolutely gorgeous however.

All valid points and I agree. Although one has to realise that this is how multi platform games should be developed.

They optimized and polished it very well for the PC and the graphics are absolutely breathtaking considering it's an inhouse developed engine from a tiny company.

I've never been opposed to games like this using a gamepad, although after trying it I found I still prefered the mouse and keyboard.

I still think this is the single best RPG in the last few years, especially in a fantasy setting.

Bioware just doesn't do it for me anymore and I'd easily recommend the Witcher 1 and 2 for people :)

You sure you got the latest version? Patches have eliminated 99.99% of plot bugs...

My game will not update no matter what I do I just get a message saying my game is invalid ?
I will dig out the discs and try a re-install as it has been a while since I installed, hope it works as really fancy another play through...

Havent read the entire of this thread, its far too long, but I just got round to starting this game, had a lot of others to finish first, and for some reason the auto detect gfx settings gives me low, wtf?? Is this a known issue? Or do I have something up? Not played it yet so it may well play OK on higher just find this strange
Main specs are 1920x1200 res, 2500K @ 4.6 (mild OC) with 16 gig RAM a 580 OCd all running off a 256gig M4 SSD, so as I say cant imagine the issues
Any advice?

Had the latest patch on the game's website. Game broke for me twice - once in act 2 with the detective not having a crucial line of dialogue available when it was due and once in act 3 with the bank robbery scene not triggering properly (i.e. npc's gathered outside the bank but wouldn't give me the key to the back entrance).

Anyone know about this? Played it a little last night, though prob not enough to tell accurately, it seemed to run OK on high.

In addition though, just gone to start it up again, running through Steam I should have said, and its performing the first time set up again, repairing .NET framework or whatever, again any ideas??
