The Witcher 2 - Thread

I am actually hoping that my copy from Amazon comes in a few days.
I have been playing a bit more of The Witcher. I have just started Act 3. It's pretty good.

I am enjoying it, but sometimes i am really pulling my hair out over the dialogue. It must be very poorly translated. Half the time i am having conversations with people and then the journal will pop up saying that it means this or that and i'm thinking  "thats not what he said!":p

For example(not really a spoiler) in act 2 you are supposed to be eliminating suspects from your investigation, i spoke to some guys and then it pops up "you should tell **** that you have proved his innocence" and i was like "wtf, thats not what i got from that convesation!!" LOL:)

It is a good game, but this story could have been told in a much better way, and with a little bit more finesse, then i would love this game

How long would you say i am from the end considering i play it on fairly easy?

Huh? I played that act very recently and it was pretty evident from the conversations that a certain piece of information meant the person was innocent when referring back to the original crime. Also good to see you carried on, Act 3 is where it starts to get really good!

Yeah i am enjoying it, so will definitely finish it now:), i just find that some of the events are not very clearly explained in the dialogue, but as i said, i believe that to be due to translation to some extent.

Another side quest i had trouble with was Force Recon- I won't spoil anything, but i got the mission from Sigfried, and i knew what the quest was, but i didn't realize until i'd done it that the opponents where the ones from the other camp. If i'd known that, i probably would have stayed neutral tbh (it also meant that i had failed another quest:mad:).

Anyway, i would have ordered it from GOG, but it was my birthday last week so i got my sister to pre-order it for me months ago, she lives a long way away and can barely use a computer:rolleyes: so the easiest way to do it was to get her to order through amazon and get it sent here:)

am i the only one diappointed in the letterboxing in the screenshots? seems a bit naff if they havent sorted apects right and have black borders.

Wont stop me buying it but i expect it may be upto WSGF to fix another atari release to proper aspect

This is another excellent aspect of the game, you will not be able to foresee all the consequences of your actions, a lot of them won't come back to bite you in the arse until much later, some choices may not necessarily have been the ones you would make if you had know the outcome but you now have to live with it. There's no right in this game, just a lot of wrong, both the Scoietal and the Order perform evil acts for "the greater good" and one of the overriding themes in the game is what exactly qualifies as a monster.

You will fail some quests, it's unavoidable.

The other notable thing about the setting is the outright racism and hostility towards non-humans. To the point where the dwarven blacksmith at the start will tell you that his species are hung on specially designed gallows, to save resources (implying that dwarves are executed fairly frequently).
